Edmonton is always a team with a mediocre record in mid-November, but this season feels different.

  1. Comes down to goaltending again this year. I had high hopes for Skinner after a new goalie coach but that's done nothing. Pickard is not as good either and they need to find a goalie that can just make that one save to win a game. I defended Skinner for a long time but I'm done with him. They should give Ingram a chance to see what he can do. Too bad they can't and wouldn't send Skinner down, It would have to be Pickard. I'm with Shannon that they don't scare me like before but at the same time with the talent on this team they could go on a big win streak. They just don't have consistent goaltending again.

  2. They'll be fine, it's been a line combination blender with Hyman, Nuge, Kapanen, and Janmark missing time, but the line-up is 90% the same as the one that went to back-to-back cup finals

  3. Don't let this video distract you from the fact the flames are making a serious run at McKenna.

  4. Stan bowman and all his predecessors have overpaid some players not worth it no cap space they have no defense or goaltending have no good bottom 6 they can’t recover to what they were the last 2 seasons their regressing now

  5. Need to start by figuring out their goal tending, get Hyman going, trade Bouchard for someone that wants to play defense. 😢

  6. Watching the Oilers is to watch a team that doesn't like to work hard, doesn't play the man, gives up too many pucks, and doesn't like defensive play. The goalies aren't great, but they aren't getting a lot of help, either.

  7. What are Stuart Skinner's Brainfarts-per-90? How about Inexcusable-Mistakes-Above-Expected?
Knoblauch was asked point-blank if they were losing confidence in their goaltending and his response (which didn't start for 3.5 seconds while he pulled surprised faces) was a waffle that Eggo is probably envious of.
Yes, his defenders let him down a lot, but you'd still like him to make a save. There is, simply put, no way any team serious about winning a Stanley Cup should play Stuart Skinner more than 20 times per season.

  8. If every Oilers defenseman matched Emberson’s level of aggression, this team would finally give itself a real chance. The contrast with Bouchard could not be sharper. Every time he turns the puck over, his so-called ā€œchaseā€ of the forward is painful to watch. It is performative effort, not competitive effort, and for a top-four defenseman on a supposed contender, that is simply unacceptable.

  9. The insane money spent on Nurse and Bouchard is crippling the team, and now that we lost Kane & Perry, the team has little to no grit or swag. Trent Frederic's contract also raises eyebrows. And don't get me started on the goaltending….

  10. Last nights loss to the capitals shows they are dead on arrival, before they even start the game they are expected to lose. That’s a terrible team

  11. EVER SINCE GETTING RID OF KANE AND SIGNING FREDRIC INSTEAD……THE ANSWER IS NO. THE OILERS GM EFFED-UP

  12. You can see a big difference in both Mcdavids and Draisaitl’s demeanor, attitude the way they carry themselves. Like they are burned out on the Oilers. Time for a change? I want both these guys to get a Cup there both so deserving of a Cup

  13. It's over, I thought for sure McDavid was giving the Oilers a shot at a cup in the next few years, now I am starting to think he kept his contract lower to be even more desirable in a trade which he could very well force at the deadline this year, he could go back to back to back somewhere else and then cash in, maybe even back in Edmonton.

  14. It definitely feels different. The "eh we'll be fine" feeling after a loss is feeling much thinner.

  15. How would every NHL team look if you removed their top 2 players?
I would submit that the Oilers would be the worst team in the league without their top 2 players.
If they found a way to replace Skinner and Nurse I believe they would beva contender. How would they look with Hasek in net?

  16. They didnt get better in the off season, they lost Kane and Perry. McDavid made a huge blunder signing that deal. He wont win a cup in Edmonton. They have goaltending issues and as a Panthers fan I was so happy they resigned Bouchard. šŸ˜‚ But seriously theyre already running the Draisaitl/McDavid line which isnt sustainable. And I dont think they'd beat Colorado to even make it back to the cup this year… The Avalanche are a problem.

  17. You wont get a single argument for Edmonton fans. We love the guys. We know we cant float their stats.

  18. the offensive talent isnt enough to make up for how bad this defense is, in my opinion edmonton is a .500 team and thats all

  19. 8 home games out of their first 24. With a bunch of new faces in the lineup, the lack of practice time at the start of their season is less than ideal. Let’s see how things go.

  20. If Edmonton can pull together a win against Florida tonight I think it will help them find their confidence again

  21. I have watched them a few times this year and what I see is a lack of a defensive system that anyone is buying into. Even with McDavid and Draisatl they can't just expect to out score the other team every night. That seems to be Knoblauch's go to move, load up on McD and Drai, and now Hyman, treating the rest of the team like three third lines (fourth lines emphasize defense). Teams are getting quality looks quite regularly, and not surprisingly, scoring a lot. And you really can't talk about the Oilers' woes without talking about Bouchard's terrible defense. There have been many defensemen who made careers being better on the offensive side of the puck than the defensive, Erik Karlsson comes to mind, but nothing like the awful d-zone play of Bouchard (well maybe Moe on the Leafs). This team is in trouble and reminds of the Habs back when their coaching strategy consisted of "Carey stop the puck" and maybe we'll score a goal.
