I believe Reinbacher should be the replacement for Carrier, Engstrom also is for trade. Muscle is needed for the playoffs to clear the net, that's not Engstrom's game. Matheson, Dobson, and Hutson play Engstrom's game. Unless you trade 1 of those 3, no real room for Engstrom. That's not a slight on Engstrom, he is a NHL caliber defenseman.
The Analytics never track well the guys who like Mike are transitioning from a certain role to another. Some of those would've you believed 2 seasons ago Josh Anderson was the worst signing in the league when in fact he was just transitioning from an offense first forward to a much more defensive role. Goes similarly with Mike Matheson. Plus, he's the type of guys the analytics will never fully show how much he makes the other D on his side look better.
Carrier is not a long term piece, he’s a place holder. If he is still in the lineup past next year something has gone horribly wrong with our player development. 🤔
Carrier will be traded.

Xhekaj brothers are good for morale and. Will be inexpensive For a decade . These two are good for teams in a cap league.
If he keep playing like this year, it is a decent signing
If he plays like last year Matheson it is a huge mistake
The Habs are doing something never really seen in the nhl with this successful of a rebuild and then having the team buy in and take less money to build a perennial cup contender

Love Carrier but Reinbacher will take his spot when he’s ready. Reinbacher’s big, has more offensive upside, and will play PK. Makes Carrier expendable at the end of his deal
Keep Carrier?! Hard pass. Guy is too small and weak. Playing awful this season. Can't have 2 small D unless they are both named Hutson
Trade Carrier asap too small, 56 & 64 should replace him and Struble. 72 is on the bubble.

We seriously have our four top defensemen signed long term. A mix of youth and now a veteran there too. I'd say our D is looking good, and also it could improve with Reinbacher, who is 6'2 and defensive minded. A big Austrian I believe.

Checked on Puckpedia on the details of the contract and its very signing bonus heavy (meaning very easy to buyout without much cap damage if necessary).

Matheson could EASILY have gotten 8 million on a desperate team. Yes, he's not in the spring of his youth, but he has been playing great with Dobson and we need veterans.
A little mention to people… Matheson is +13 on a team that is -3. He's also used against the other teams' best players. Let that sink in.
Unless Laine gives the team a VERY, VERY team friendly deal, he's gone next year.
