Growing Concern Around Canadian Teams | 32 Thoughts

  1. Oilers defence is pathetic – the goalies may be touch and go but without proper defence he is sunk – one player doesn't make a team.

  2. I don’t understand the whole discourse with skinner being the problem. He has not been good at all but I don’t think it matters who you put in net with this team. They play so poorly defensively. Who is available that’s actually an upgrade? Sure if you get Vasi or helle go for it.

  3. I still believe that Skinner & Pickard would be fine if the defence hadn’t left them out to dry sooooooo many times. The defensive structure is non-existent and that falls on the defensive coach and Knobber. Knobloch failed in hiring competent coaches as he was trying to give new guys a chance in the NHL. That is not what a team that went to the cup final twice needs. If it were one or two dmen that were struggling, you could make the argument it’s not the coach but every single vet has regressed, by a lot. That falls on coaching. It would have been better if they didn’t come out with a .500 record on the last road trip. If they came back with a losing record from the 7 games, we’d be seeing a support coaching change. Knob has earned one bad year. His staff has not and the defensive coach should be let go.

  4. I get that a new goalie won’t solve all your problems, but you have to start somewhere. A new more solid goalie, actually two, a new coach and some more coaches supporting them. Better systems, more practice, some new players, some heart and some passion. Some good pieces and great talent in the Oilers but it will be a long road ahead

  5. Yeah, there are at least 20 teams that a want Stuart Skinner to be their No. 1 goalie. They're all in the American Hockey League.
