I wouldn't have brought him here in the first place. I dont see them trading him. Even though they should.
5.5 4 years. He's playing good now, but how about three years down the road? We already have Hutson and Dobson locked up. Reinbacher looks like a man among boys in the AHL. I know Matheson is good enough to get the money. He has value and plays PK and lots of minutes. He adds offensively as well. I would say 6.5. Do 6.5 for 4 years, not a year more
For the right price and term, id keep Mike. He's a Montrealer, good player and eats up a lot of minutes. PLUS, depth at defense is a necessity…see Leafs. His experience and poise will help the young D guys.
Habs have a bunch of young defensemen I would trade him for a first rounder if you could get it, they're going to have to restock Laval.
I think he was asked about Dobson at the combine’s as he played with him at the worlds, questions about if he would fit into dressing room 🤔

I wouldn't sign him honestly. I would rather get a top 4 with less offensive end but with more muscle and grits. Or just let a young hab take his place.
Matheson is not remotly playing in PP anyways.
We need to save money to get a great center. And in a ideal world, a lefty center.
People will never realize how important Matheson is until he’s gone.He eats the most minutes by far, him and Dobson are our best tandem.
If anything I’d upgrade Carrier for a big stay at home d-man who can shield Hutson better.

100% they will keep him.
It is more about fitting him in financially as it is not a debate that he is a positive on the ice. Likely he would get a bigger payday elsewhere but if they could sign him at 5 or 5.5 for 4 years he is a keeper.
Get rid of Gally, useless….
I love Mike Matheson. I love the way he plays. I think in the same way if you traded Sam Montembault last year you would have received maximum value for him Montreal should trade Matheson now, If they can get great value. Montreal has three offensively minded D in Hutson Dobes and Matheson. Probably one too many and a young rebuilding team should probably trade the oldest of these guys and seek out that hard rock defensive defender they need.
The Leafs should kill for this guy. They have no one on the team like him. A desperate Leaf team might release some real value. Now I'd want Knies and a first and you shouldnt get that for Matheson except the Leafs desperately need a puck mover on D like Matheson.
See what you can get. If you cant get a first and someone young and good I'd still keep him
