Sabres WIN Preseason Opener 4-0 w/ Paul Hamilton | The Jeremy and Joe Show

Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase are joined by Paul Hamilton to recap the Sabres first preseason game which resulted in a 4-0 win over the Blue Jackets. The guys ask what he noticed from the game last night, and Hamilton highlights the style of game seeming to fit exactly what HC Lindy Ruff seems to want. Paul also touches on the goaltenders having a solid night for the Sabres, with Georgiev and Levi posting a combined shutout. They also discuss rookie defenseman Radim Mrtka who has impressed early in his career.

  1. The only way I see Levi making the team is half way through the year he has to be called up due to injuries. And he is totally blowing you out of the water with 10 to 20 games. If he is winning games has a .910 save percentage and 2.60 or lower GAA. Yea then the Sabres will be in a good spot to be in.
Mrtka leave him in juniors for now. Do not rush him. I can see how good this kid can be if he is not rushed. Maybe 1 more year or juniors and he will make the team however plan on 2 more years. If next year he is Tyler Myers rookie season then yea Mrtka stays in the NHL.
Helenius looks like he is not too far off from being NHL ready. He should get a cup of coffee this season in the NHL as well as Ostlund should get that cup of coffee. If later in the year they stick then they stick. However make them both earn their spots. And honestly I do not think either is too far off from being ready. Just not the start of the year.
The rest of the team if they keep playing like this where they play a solid game they can be a playoff team. Yes they will have a issue scoring however if they do play a solid 2 way game and they start getting more in tight play around the net. They can later on get that 1 scorer like JJ was but a better 2 way game.
Also with Kesselring you got a very good 2nd pair with Power. All and all I think the team has improved in there 2 way game. If they can keep improving that game play and be consistent with it. And they win 60%+ of there 1 or 2 goal games all year. This team would be far more improved.
That improved team then going into next year with Helenius, Levi, Ostlund, Mrtka knocking down the door to be on this team puts them in such a great position. That they can make a trade to get the right scoring winger and if they were in the playoffs this year. That scoring winger could waive his NTC for Buffalo which will give the team a well rounded team.
We just need to let them continue to progress this season and hopefully they can be consistent in 2/3s of their games.

  2. Ah, Buffalo. The city of wings, Bills mafia, and—let's not forget—hockey. The Buffalo Sabres, ever the underdog, just delivered a shocking 4-0 win in the preseason, and naturally, the entire fanbase is now preparing for the Stanley Cup parade in the streets of downtown Buffalo. But hold on a second, folks. Before we get carried away with hopes, dreams, and delusions of grandeur, let’s slow down and remember one timeless truth about the Sabres’ preseason triumph: a 4-0 preseason victory is the first step on the road to a catastrophic regular season disappointment.

  3. Isn’t it so very strange, guys who hate to lose played well. Dump #23, and light a fire under #25's a$$!!!
