Mitch should be criticized for his performance and nothing else. I didn't realize he was being harassed in Toronto and that's just crazy.
Every sport has markets where the fan and media scrutiny is greater than in most other cities, and some athletes, being human beings, are not temperamentally equipped to handle it, while others thrive on it. I think Marner would be better off in a place where the outside pressure isn’t as omnipresent as it is in Toronto, or probably any Canadian market. I’m not excusing the behaviour of the fans that were harassing him, nor did he help himself with some of the things he said, but he’d be better off somewhere where he can walk his dog, or take his son to the park, without some yahoo yelling at him.
And what do you think happens in Europe for soccer clubs ahahha. Man come on. Just wait if he goes to ny or li ahhahah he hasn’t seen anything yet.
Forever remembered as dry hair Marner.
This is toronto for you. Players who play there need to be a different breed to survive in that city.
No disrespect to marner, but if your playing in toronto then you have be prepared that kind of treatment from fans. If you expect not to have the phone cameras on you and particularly your family then your not going to make it there. Thats what comes with playing in toronto especially.
Im sure he was warned by his reps that its a city where you and your family are never going to be able to walk safely on the streets. Either the money spoke too loud or he was too brash to understand what he was being told. In fairness, there just arent too many guys who can handle it and many guys who go there have no idea what the treatment is really going to be like. Still, he should have known better than to extend in a city he was not cut out for.
I hope for his sake he doesnt go back because he clearly cannot handle playing there and the fans have turned against for understandable reasons.
The media in Toronto sucks. They need to stop attacking players and lying. Some fans are jerks, maybe too many, but media…
I am a Canucks fan. But hear me out Toronto. Back in 2012 the Canucks lost to the Kings in round 1. Ownership overreacted by blowing up the team and firing the coach, and the fans back then also supoort it. I never supported it, calling it a hugh mistake back then, but that's beside the point.
Well, it is 2025. And Canucks still hasn't recovered. Yeah some ups and downs, but the Canucks never got back up to that level on a consistent basis.
You guys don't like the consistent failures in the playoffs? Well, bold of you to assume your "new team" will even make the playoffs nearly as consistently, lead by a superstar who grew up there.
Be careful what you ask for, that's all.
Remember a few years back after the Leafs were eliminated again in the playoffs, and Mariner’s SUV was hijacked ? I’m sure that probably weighed on his mind. Please come to my team, the Blackhawks 🙏 You will co-top-dog there besides Bedard.
The Leafs should keep Mitch Marner and let Joe Bowen go.
I want him to stay, but I understand why he might be at a point where he's not interested.
I'd take Gilmore even Clark over Marner any day don't get Me wrong He's a Great player just not as good as a lot of people think he is
I think you'll see the Leafs taking a step backwards next year. Nobody is saying how Marner's 100 points are going yo be replaced.
Chris is only carrying water for the team by being silent on details on what happened to Marner
