@New York Islanders

I’ve NEVER seen this before

Matthew Schaefer scored the game winner against the Mammoth Friday night as he continues to set the league on fire and oh my, he’s actually made the Islanders fun to watch! That and more in today’s NHL hockey video!

  1. I think that the hardest part to discern is if the Islanders are legitimate, meaning they are going to make a playoff run this year, they are no longer sellers. Everyone walking into this year thought the Islanders would not make the playoffs and therefore at some point would offload some of their contracts like JGP. But if they continue this momentum, even if they don't win five in a row again or they win every other two games, etc, they're not going to be sellers anymore. I don't think they have enough capital for them to be buyers though. The Islanders have some very good solid prospects. Ready to make the jump from the CHL to the AHL or the AHL to the NHL so they're not going to want to get rid of those. Especially as some other NHL contracts come due this year and next year. Schaefer Is having us all believe this could be not just a rebuilding year but a rebuilding year with a playoff run. That's really difficult to achieve and fun to watch.

  2. I'd take him as a 7th D on team Canada. He's good against mediocre bottom 6 NHLers but idk about in world-class best-on-best tourney

  3. The crazy amount of people that still want to discredit his ability to play in the Olympics because of the “physicality” are so fucking stupid. Yes hockey is physical, but guess what, it’s about SPEED, if hitting was actually super important, then cal clutterbuck and Matt Martin would be considered some of the greatest players ever. But they’re not obviously. Quit dickriding “the physicality” religiously like it’s some oversimplified necessity that every player needs to be built like a fucking tank. I hear nobody saying the Hughes brothers or Hutson shouldn’t have a spot, all while Schaefer is already a bigger and more aggressive player than them. He’s already risen to a top 10 defenseman in the league without a doubt. And if you can’t agree to that, then you clearly aren’t fucking watching.

  4. He's more than skilled enough for a team Canada spot, problem is we have no idea how 'consistantly' good he'll be.

    I don't think we'll see him on Team Canada for that reason. But he's looking like a lock for every team Canada after that.

  5. Statistics and mathematical probably proves that the NHL and all current sports are being manipulated by outside involvement. Stop supporting a rigged and scripted sport that is used to take money from the middle and lower class to furthur the devide between good and evil. Wake up.

  6. How long before you guys swap out Potvin for Schaefer in the beats his wife chants? The man has been retired for almost 40 years, and you still can't go to an Isles vs. Rangers game and not hear that chant. You guys need some new material.

  7. They got Matthew Schaefer and Emil Heineman and both are looking amazing this year. I'm a Habs fan and I was sad we had to add Heineman in a trade for Noah Dobson, but definitely both teams benefitted there. It's great to see Heineman having such a good start to his sophmore season, so hopefully he can keep that going! With Schaefer really upping the Islander's defense, could we potentially see the rebirth of Fort Neverlose? Only time will tell…

  8. All these conversations about who should Canada take… EF asked a good question: how many winner take all games did these young guns played before? in order to remove Cup winners from the roaster u’d need prove that they can perform at the time when the pressure is highest. Not on a Tuesday night against the Mammoth… my bet is they take 1 of the 3 (Bedard, Celebrini or Ms) but they wont play a single minute on ice.

  9. As an isles fan that was always believed offensive defense take years to be effective in the NHL, my brain can’t comprehend what I’m watching

  10. have to agree — isles have been downright miserable to watch ever since trotz left. but this year they're ELECTRIC
