The New Jersey Devils finished their 5 game roadtrip on a 3 game losing streak, falling to the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 6-3 last night in Philly.
The team has looked bad with superstar Jack Hughes sidelined.
It may be time for General Manager Tom Fitzgerald to start asking some extremely difficult questions.
What will the future hold for this NJ Devils team?
Is help on the horizon via the trade market?

If the Devils want to snap their losing streak against Detroit tomorrow back at home, they're gonna have to do it without Cody Glass and Brett Pesce. Both are out with an upper body injury.
Well we should definitely have a huge conversation with coach Keefe about the losing streak on the road. Now that we're as team are falling apart. Much like the Hillary Clinton Kamala Harris team being crushed by trump MAGA regime. We must concentrate on defense depth. How are we supposed to do that without Hughes?
The Devils will be fine. It's just a 3 game losing streak. There's no need to be concerned. There's also no need to panic. All teams goes through losing streaks.
ESPN has the Devils at 21% to make the playoffs without Jack. Even with him, they are only 45%. These odds came out before the last two losses, too. ESPN is seeing a real concerning problem with this roster going forward. I think they are definitely a playoff team with Jack.
Dougie has to go, unfortunately. I want to keep him but when Kovacevic signed his contract, something was eventually going to have to give and Dougie to me makes the most sense purely from a roster construction standpoint. I'm not sure what his value would be given the price and the fact that he's missed extensive time in 3 out of 4 seasons with us plus already a little of bit of time this year. I think we will have to get someone back as a more viable 7th defenseman than Cholowski.
My biggest concern though is the Kovy signing at the deadline. Kovy is great but the fact that this org by all signs seemed ready to commit to him long term over a 2nd overall pick with a significantly higher offensive ceiling AND with an aging Dougie is malpractice. There were times in his rookie year where Nemec looked like the best defenseman on the roster (I think we all want to forget the 2023-2024 season ever happened and that D core was an absolute abomination so I can forgive devils fans for forgetting). He made rookie mistakes but he also showed signs of brilliance and I think a lot of people were high on him going into last season. Then he gets injured playing for Slovakia and has a slump and immediately the org is looking to trade him. I'm all for heavier edgier and more violent but we are seeing how inept we are at putting pucks in the net and Kovy just doesn't do that. Nemec does. I don't know if I can trust an organization that would seriously consider investing more of their future into Kovy than Nemec.
We are getting way ahead of ourselves with panicing about this 3 game skid. The season has a long way to go and we are in the thick of things. Jack will be back and this team has lots of depth so don't go overboard by saying it's time for panic.

It's been identified since last season troughout the summer that this team desperately needed a top 6 winger and a 3 C. Did Fitz adress it ? No he didn't, time to fire that Loser ! Fire Fitz now

Fitz will be defined by his handling of Luke & Nemec. If Nemec goes elsewhere and makes less than Luke, the other team will have the MUCH BETTER PLAYER, and Devils will have an overpaid mediocre defensemen. Fitz should be fired immediately if we don’t keep him and keep Luke.
Every team will be asking for Nemec because that was the angle teams took last year. Trading Nemec for a 34 year old (soon to be 35) Ryan O'Reilly should ensure Fitzgerald's firing. Freeing up Nemo's contract does nothing so the move has to be Dougie for cap purposes and like you said it will hurt but in the long run the team will figure it out. Both Luke and Nemec were drafted to eventually be the top line defensive tandem.
I’m not panicking, however all due respect Ace I really think we need to call out Nico man. I’m sorry I really am but the kids got ZERO killer instinct. After the breakaway goal for MM. Nico SHOULDVE TOLD Keefe call the timeout. I’m sick of it. I’m sick of the “oh well he’s such a great two player” I’m SICK OF IT. HE SHOWS ZERO EMOTION.

Is a trade rumor, but I would still like to know if there is something true or not. it is rumored about O Reilly, Kadri or Pageau as options. What is known? is this possible? thank you very much. I’d love to see Quinn play with the Devils. The guys are coming back to the Rock tonight, we’ll see what happens. Really, I hope to see some positive change.
We don’t just need a win tonight, we need 4 goal shutout and to leave bodies all over the ice. Bummed I’m not there last time I was there for a Blackhawks game, Patty was pretty cool and signed a Winter Classic sweater for me. I know other people say different but man he was cool to me.
