The Gulls battled hard but fell 3 to 2 to the Calgary Wranglers on Saturday night at Pechanga Arena.
Yegor Sidorov opened the scoring early, but Calgary responded with two first period goals from Martin Frk and Justin Kirkland. Matvei Gridin added another in the second to make it 3 to 1.
San Diego pushed back with a strong third period and finally broke through when Roland McKeown scored on the power play with 57 seconds left. Despite a late surge with the extra attacker, the Gulls could not find the equalizer.
San Diego outshot Calgary 32 to 25 and went 1 for 4 on the power play.
