Always an Original: Episode 2 | The Madhouse

The Madhouse dives into the legacy of the Madhouse on Madison, one of hockey’s most electric and iconic arenas.

It explores the history behind its legendary anthem, the emotion of its jersey retirements, and the unforgettable moments that defined generations of fans. Through archival footage and firsthand stories, the film captures the chaos, energy, and deafening roar that made the building come alive.

Players, broadcasters, and fans reflect on what it felt like to be inside when the place was truly rocking. It’s a celebration of a building that wasn’t just an arena — it was a moment that fans needed to be apart of.

Produced by Sergio Lozano, who has witnessed three decades of Blackhawks history firsthand as a day-one United Center employee and scoreboard operator for both the Bulls and Blackhawks.

  1. I'm 61 years old.. I grew up there.LOUDEST frickin stadium anywhere. You could be screaming at someone next to u and couldn't hear you,it was so loud during the anthem. That place was amazing. I loved the top levels.

  2. Congratulations Chicago Blackhawks! You did it again, and more to come. Thank you to all involved, just super!

  3. That building was like no other. Growing up watching all the greats, walking up the stairs to the second balcony while your shoes stuck to them because of spilled beer or goodness knows what else 🤣 The men’s restrooms with missing mirrors and missing doors from the stalls, maybe a fight or two or three when the Wings came into town. The anthem, the electricity, the noise, and the ear piercing roar of the crowd will never be duplicated. So much heart and soul in that building, it heard us while we cheered, and gave it back to us a hundred times over.

  4. I really, really could have done without those absolutely cringe worthy …spoken word performances….if that's what you wanna call them…..in between the segments. Especially the last one (ROAR!). And of course Bobby Hull shouldn't have been a part of it at all, but otherwise a really good video.

  5. never made it to the madhouse but i ordered a brick from it years and years ago so i got a piece of it at least.
what a fascinating video. thnx so much for sharing it!

  6. I’ll admit that I shed a few tears watching this as it brought back lots of memories with family and friends at the stadium.

  7. This is absolutely phenomenal!!! Congratulations to everyone who worked on this project. You brought nostalgic tears to our eyes!!!

  8. as a tampa fan living in southern ontario, canada. i really enjoyed this video. been watching NHL since 1980 so there's a lot of memories of the chicago stadium.

grateful the video suggestion came up on my FB feed.

CHI def has an up and coming team with bedard, naxar, rinzel and knight in net.

hopefully this next generation of blackhawks can create many more new memories at the united center.

    cheers from canada 🍁

  9. this was incredible. im an islanders fan i wish they would do videos like this on their channel . i didnt know the lore of the anthem and chicago stadium until i was 13 in 1989. sports channel america started airing playoff games nation wide starting in the 1989 playoffs. the hawks went on a run in the 1989 playoffs led by the goaltending of alain chevrier it was the first time i saw the anthem at chicago stadium with the insane noise and the huge american flags the fans woul unfurl it truly was amazing

  10. Back during a time where jersey advertising wasn’t a thing which is infinitely better than the garbage ads the Hawks have now.

  11. In honor of the Hawks centennial could you please post all of Kane's career goals and shootout goals as a Hawk in best quality? And maybe all the 09-17 playoff goals by everyone.

Kane's 2nd-4th career goals I think it is don't even exist online. No video. And all his goals from his first 3 seasons except a few playoff big goals don't exist online in decent quality.

  12. I was born in Toronto, my uncle would take me to Maple Leaf Gardens as a kid. We immigrated to Philadelphia, and I attended many hockey games at The Spectrum. Saw one Rangers game at the old Madison Square Garden. I was in the Montreal Forum, but not for hockey but the 1976 Olympics gymnastics, saw Nadia Comaneci get the first perfect 10. My favorite hockey arena will always be The Stadium in Chicago. I remember watching on TV the 1971 Stanley Cup Final game 7 vs Montreal from Chicago Stadium, and just loved the roar of the crowd.

  13. I went to my first Hawks game in 1982. This Episode brought back many great memories of seeing games in that old barn. GREAT Episode. Thank you ❤
