  1. Idea for a trade: Stamkos to Canes for Kotkaniemi.
Canes currently have league worst PP together with Calgary at 12.5%. Have Stammer play as a middle six winger at 5vs5 and set him up on the top PP to score goals.
Preds in return get a 2 way center in his mid 20's which is needed considering their lack of center depth.
You could consider adding some picks and/or prospect to even out the value.

  2. I'd understand giving Rantanen 1 game susp, if only to calm the waters and keep with the NHL narrative to reduce the hits bc of end board puck retrieval but Mayfield should get a game as well – his clearly negligent actions (he was flat footed and disengaged when he hooked Rantanen then opened his can) resulted in his teammate getting injured ultimately. A boneheaded move at the worst time in the worst place…

  3. Ok serious question here but why is it that Canadian teams never sell high on declining assets when it's obvious that they are declining (and will not lead to a cup) and they are still at near peak value. Case in point, why isn't Treliving exploring a blockbuster deal involving Matthews and Reilly? He could trade his way out of this the team needs a new identity and those two players can fetch a kings ransom. It's exactly what Florida would do (see Huberdeau) and it's exactly the kind of swing teams like Vegas take. Low and behold, these are far more successful teams than the leafs. More case in point they did not get maximal value out of Marner when they had the power to do so. The sens are going to make the same mistake with Brady (overrated LW who is not fast nor game breaking) i love the guy but the sens need to win a Stanley cup and to do that they need more skill and speed, especially on Tim's wing. They also need more goalie depth. Look at Edmonton hanging on to Skinner and hanging on to guys like Bouchard and being far too top heavy in talent. They could leverage Hyman into the return they need to be deep. Again, this is just something it seems Canadian teams struggle with – no vision for how to win. They like a good story but winning a Stanley cup requires more than vibes. Thoughts? I think this would make a good segment – maybe there's no opportunity to get better by making big trades like this but I can't imagine that's true. When something isn't working the definition of insanity is…..continuing to do that same thing. Why wouldn't you try something else? The risk is that you get the same result, but you have a chance at success. Keeping things the same right now leaves zero chance of success, first 20 games are the obvious evidence. You lose Marner who in my view was actually the best player on the leafs overall, you don't get better without replacing that talent in the same structure – the only option then is to change the makeup of the team. AM34 would be such massive trade bait and tons of teams would make big offers. The return could fix the team today AND provide assets for the future no?

  4. Whats going on with Stamkos.. lightning mived on because he had by miles the worst plus minus on the team. Then he carried that forward to his new team.. is there an injury that on going ??

  5. Bedard was put in the league at least 1 year too early. Chicago was never going anywhere and they burned a year on the nhl contract and bedard was no where near ready.

  6. TRADE BOARD PLAYERS I'D LOVE TO SEE GET TRADED TO:

    Andersson: San Jose
    Stamkos: Vegas
    Tuch: Chicago
    Coleman: Boston
    Chinakov: Colorado

  7. in the next cba i would love to see a clause regarding a limited amount of no trade clauses allowed per team…. something like 3 per team, would maybe loosen things up a little

  8. Depends on prices but I could see winnipeg being in on Schenn come back to prairies/play with his brother.
And Stamkos they miss Ehlers and Nyquist hasn't fit if it didn't cost a ton it be worth it.
He also would be sheltered behind Connor,Scheifele,Villardi,Perfetti way more depth like Lowry,Toews ect.

    Connor Scheifele Villardi
    Perfetti Toews Stamkos/Schenn
    Nino Lowry Namestnikov
    Iafallo Barron Nyquist

  9. 52:34 yes. Roy should be fined right now. What he said is unacceptable and approaches NFL bounty-gate level of badness where he is encouraging his players to intentionally injure Rantanen. If I was the NHL, I would Roy if Rantanen is injured in their next game, Roy is suspended for the rest of the season.

  10. Kadri should be part of the Leafs Treliplan. He’s a Berube-type player that can lead the Leafs deep into the playoffs.

  11. Don’t see how anyone would take him unless half the contract was retained and even in any event , doubt Nashville could get any return

  12. Would actually love to see Stamkos in Columbus, if the acquisition cost (as CJ put it) weren't too absurd.
We've got cap space and the remaining term isn't so crazy that it would burn us for too long if he doesn't work out.
A shooting threat like him could work very well with the Jackets' speed at forward (like Laine was supposed to before his bones turned out to be candy canes).

  13. I dunno what the Leafs would get back for Reilly or really Carlo at this point, odds are it wouldn't be enough to right the ship this season and unless they're gonna tank for the next couple years Picks aren't going to be worth a whole lot.
