Hayes on Skinner: ‘He cannot be a starter in the NHL’

I think he is a starter when he has the right d core in front of him. He is a absolutely loyal guy he plays for his hometown team and easily destroy his career for the oilers with this numbers. There is no single team in the nhl which has so bad work on the direct front of the pipes. Itâs so insane how bad they work on her own net. And I think thatâs absolutely hard for a goalie to find a way to work with this dcore defense in his mind. I think a goalie like bobrowsky or a caliber like him had win 1or 2 games more for the team. Skinner is not the problem.
Skinners demeanour is a tell tale of what the root of the problem is. Jovial after losses. Puts on a big smile. Acts like itâs no big deal. Happy-go-lucky doesnât cut it pal. Itâs the NHL, this is serious stuff
Having your backup as your starter has got to be frustrating. Teams just seems to get extra pumped and make awesome plays against Skinner that they don't against other teams.
You guys always say the team doesnât play properly when they donât trust the goalie. It works both ways. If a goalie doesnât trust his players in front of him to stop cross crease passes etc, then he starts to cheat off the post on plays where there might be a pass across. You canât blame Skinner on the one goal you showed against Washington I believe, when Bouchard lets the player pull the puck all the way across the crease to put it by Skinner. As the goalie, Iâm sure Skinner is assuming it has to be just a basic shot. That his defence man is not going to let the guy cross the front of the net. No goalie out there is going to save this team. They did play a really good game in Tampa. That doesnât guarantee you a win though. Just because you played well.
This is the dumbest commentary⊠you canât quantify Skinner until the teams starts playing the same way other teams defend them and stop giving more high end chances to the other team than they have shots.
Skinner isnt good enough for ECHL , long overdue Bowman …McDavid's contract is looking like an expert exit strategy now…if I hear "He got us to the cup" …we dragged this fool & lost 2 X ….devastating , imagine if we had Binnington or Oettinger ? Different outcome for sure…
I absolutely loved it when the reaction to Rayâs dunking on him during EDM@BUF from every other fan base in the league was âSEE? EVERYBODY ELSE KNOWS IT TOOâ and all oilers fans could say was âuh uh uh uh well you havenât made the playoffs in foreverâ
I desperately hope they donât change goalies because then he will be the reason McDavid is gone in two years.
Nothing worse than a crap tendy. Never know what to do. We had one so bad, we had to tell the other team not to shoot the puck from their side of the blue line.
I think there's the big elephant in the room. No one is confident in Skinner, but no one is saying anything because they want to be supportive of their goalie. I bet if they get someone that they can count on, they will pull it together.
This is a conversation where I'd rather listen to a goalie. I agree Stuart Skinner is not good enough for a cup contender, but to say he's not good enough to be an NHL starter just cuz of his dumpster sv% is lazy. His Saves Above Expected is currently positive for the season. Saving the exact amount of shots the models expect you to is not worst in the league goaltending, period. He's been bad but the skater performance is the far bigger problem.
Why is no one talking about just how bad the Oilers are on defense and all around? Itâs not skinner/just skinner. Theyâre a broken team with a lack of an actual captain
Skinner does not have the athleticism to be elite, duh. It does not matter if you look good wrapping the post when the puck is behind the net. The test is when the puck enters say the slot from behind the net then where is your goalie positionally.
Being an intelligent, nice guy… is not enough. You have to stop pucks regular and when it matters. Nothing wrong with being an AHL goalie or a backup. Some of the goals this year have been an indication of no longer believing in himself either. Pickard can't do it either, so…. move on. I'd talk to Vancouver in, say, about 3 weeks. Get both Demko and Lankinen… give up picks you'll never need, and get it done. Vancouver is very very close to falling into a rebuild, whether that was there plan or not. And while you're there, pick up Garland if you can get him for another 1st.
Oilers biggest problem is leadership. Silver spoon self entitled McDavid should not be captain. This team will improve immensely once Connor Mcmemyselfandi is gone.

Out of all the bad signings around the league in the last few years none made me laugh harder then when Edmonton just signed Bouch to that contractâŠ
