The only correct way to replace your divots, according to a golf course superintendent

  1. Even if 95% of the roots die from the divot, it's still better than dumping a pile of sand into it. The plug at least has a chance to grow back. Don't listen to this guy.

  2. Wow… Not only the wrong advice, depending on the type of grass, but the fact that there is even sand available…

  3. When you dont mention that most of us in the north have grass that does stay alive and grow back

  4. Replace the divot with the plug (for the golfers behind you) Its upto the groundskeepers after that quite literally why you pay a membership for

  5. I have worked in gold maintenance for 15 years. Even if the divot grass dies, its still good to put it back because the soil will still be there. Replace divit, spinkle some seed and sand, boom, good to go

  6. I live in Michigan and this is not the case. I take my divot chunks home with me and fill in bare spots in my yard. Sue me

  7. My question is do you use the same procedure on deep divots with a large thick strip of grass for a plug? Like say on a saturated course, or if you take divots like Lexi Thompson lol.

Oh one other thing. Please everyone repair your pitch marks on the greens, and try to fix two others while you're at it. As club members (and casual golfers) we all need to do our part in keeping our courses as nice as possible.

  8. Hey Mark,
Great advice! I was a golf course superintendent for 35 years and I have seen this countless times!
Happy New Year and God bless you and your family

  9. by the sound of it, northern courses should put bottles of water on carts for when the golfer replaces their divot pelt back into the ground and gives it water to help it survive. im in wisconsin and ive seen plenty of replaced divots grow back with moisture

  10. No context to the type of grass, its the worst part of shorts. He didn't tell me I couldn't smoke the little piece of grass from my plug. Fml

  11. Depends on the grasstype bermuda and zoysia need divotmix, perenial ryegrass actually heals faster when you replace the divot

  12. As a lawn care tech I can confirm, no it doesn’t matter the type of grass it is, if u take a chunk and completely sever the roots it physically cannot grow back no matter what it dies very quickly
