Bill you don't understand. Rielly isn't a defenseman.. never was . He is a forward. The deal is he starts on defense for the face off then switches off with the defenseman who was taking the faceoff. Simple, how else is he supposed to score, isnt that the most important thing that rielly scores a bunch.
Domi icing the puck cost us a goal and then he cost us another in overtime, Tavares is our best player and a real pro and should never have been stripped of his captaincy.
I don't know why you hate Johnny Ttttttttt so much he's been a great Center man since he came to Toronto with 520 points so far and 234 of them being goals and 286 assist's. Take's a pay cut and has his heart and soul here in Toronto.
Look, why don't we all admit it, we had a good run, 10 years in the playoffs for very little return and now, all the other teams have had multiple first rounders to improve their teams and except for the anomaly in Buffalo, it looks like we are getting ready for a downturn. Been a leafs fan since 1970-71, it's been a long time suffering with this organization and except maybe for Salming and a few others who were on the team it's safe to say that this team has always lacked the one element that you need to win championships…a bonafide stud on defense. We've never had the d-corp required to go deep in the playoffs. Why is it that this organization has never been able to draft anything close to the prototypical player that fills this role. Berube won the cup with St. Louis because he had 3 juggernauts playing defense for him: Petrangelo, Parayko and Boowmeester. We don't even have one. Tanev is the closest thing to that and he might be gone forever. The Toronto Maple Leafs have never had a Norris trophy winner in their history…never. I am already to accept what is coming, oh sure, they could come back from the abyss and they might even squeak in the post season just so they can break our hearts once again…lol. Having said all that, I like most of our defensemen and I hope they tighten up their game as a whole, meaning the entire team has to play sound defensively…I agree with everything Bill has said.
Could Reilly play wing? Ive heard some others bring it up, but he has offensive skill and maybe taking him away from playing D would not put him under a magnifying glass. As a wing i cant imagine his defense being much worse than Domi, or even Nylander for that matter.
