The Anaheim Ducks dropped a sloppy one to the Detroit Red Wings, losing 6–3 after a chaotic night of penalties, turnovers, and messy structure. Cutter Gauthier scored in his 100th NHL game, Beckett Sennecke and Jackson LaCombe helped create goals, and Mikael Granlund and Ryan Strome both made an impact in their returns. But undisciplined play — including multiple penalties from Mason McTavish — and constant defensive breakdowns left Lukáš Dostál and John Gibson hanging out to dry. Chris Kreider, Drew Helleson, and the bottom six were all part of a game where nothing looked clean, and Joel Quenneville’s reaction to this effort will be important heading into tomorrow’s matchup with the Minnesota Wild. The Ducks’ seven-game win streak is suddenly followed by back-to-back losses, and Anaheim will need answers fast. #nhl #anaheimducks #hockey #detroitredwings

A few of your videos ago, i said i wouldn't be getting my hopes up despite a row of sold wins……. this is why. But i do believe the Ducks can get it back and start playing how they have been.
Now that granlund is back. They really need to figure out who complements him best. Because last night was not it. Strome and killorn just don't seem to have the style that the ducks are trying to play. Or maybe not the skill. When they shoot it's always center body, never elevated, never a threat.
It’s a loss. We had some break downs and the D just needs play more physical, tighten it up in our end and stop taking dumb penalties. 1st game back for Strome…what did you expect? He’s just trying to catch up to the kids. Let’s move on. Coach Q will certainly address this. We’ll bounce back. This isn’t the same old Ducks. Keep the faith. Go Ducks! Let’s get the next one.
McTavish has been pretty disappointing so far, especially considering how the contract went down. He wanted more money but he isn't playing any better than he did last year, I think he looks a bit worse than last year- he needs to prove that he's going to have more of a presence.
I think some trades are in order. Killorn & Vatrano are not proving to be worth what they're being paid.
Killorn: $6.25M
Vatrano: $4.57M
Absolutely gutting the Ducks at that price. They need to let them go and free up some cap space, and then take a chance on calling two guys up to fill in the bottom 6 until they can find better options.
I also think McTavish should be demoted to the 3rd line and Nesterenko should take his place.
Strome and Grunland back has definitely changed the dynamic now. We have lost two in a row. That's not a coincidence. Quinville needs to figure this out with the lineup and chemistry we had on seven game win streak. That sucks Sam was sent back to the Gulls
They looked extremely slow this game compared to previous games this season. Lots of silly penalties and again an over reliance on how good Dostal is because without him I think this would have been a lot worse. Thought Sennecke played well the entire game.
It's a good feeling this season now that we expect the Ducks to win against these types of opponents but when they don't it's extremely frustrating. MacT and Kreider made some seriously boneheaded mistakes this game. Clean it up and get back on track tomorrow, fellas.
This game frustrated me to no end. The foolish penalties (Krieder WHAT are you doing!?!?), and poor defensive breakdowns/offensive turnovers were unacceptable.
I wasn’t really impressed with Stromes return. I get that he is playing catch up since it was his debut but he certainly wasn’t sharp.
I’m really not looking forward to the game against the Wild. They have been super inconsistent. You never know what team you are getting with them, whether it will be the bad version or the lights out version. Here’s hoping we can get back on track though. Go Ducks
This game shows the two key weakness the Ducks have and it's defense and puck handling on the defensive zone. This team needs to look hard at the defenseman position at the trade deadline to add some physicality and puck control to this team.
Mental mistakes and lack of discipline. Maybe I’m on an island here, but I felt their ability to generate chances was fine but they made some huge mistakes that cost them
I was DYING when Gibby didn't come out for the third
I think Q will make the needed adjustments. Obviously, I'm not a coach so these are my unqualified opinions, but I think although it'll be financially painful to do so, it would be best if Killorn was put on the fourth line. I'd like to see a third line with Vatrano, Nesterenko, and McTavish. I'm not a huge fan of Poehling's performance so far this season — kind of reminds me of Daniel Winnik from a few seasons back — gets close but can never quite get there and finish the job… frustrating watching him play.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I keep seeing the Ducks forwards start to take-off up ice way too early before they securely have the puck and then putting themselves behind the play when the other team gets control of it instead, resulting in a lot of close quarters odd man rushes. I love the urgency and the quicker transition but they look way too eager too often.
But overall, I'm happy. The Ducks are scoring goals and they're fun to watch. That hasn't been the case for about five years, and the last two seasons with Cronin and his useless assistance coaches was probably the worst iteration of the Ducks I've ever seen.
They'll fix it and keep challenging for the top spots. I am confident they'll make the playoffs.
I love McTavish as a player. He’s gritty and chippy which I love, but he takes the dumbest undisciplined penalties. They’re silly.
I can’t see him continuing getting consideration for wearing the ‘C’ in the future if this keeps up.
IM DYING I HAVEN’T HAD DUCK MY LIFE FOR A WEEK
BUT UR BACK
McTavish needs to clean up his game. The effort isn't there and he takes dumb penalties every game.
It’s ok we’ll win some and lose some gotta bounce back
Hope they can rebound next game after those two Ls…
sloppy.
I’m sorry, but McT has got to pull thing together, he’s taking wayy too many pims, and it’s taking away from our offensive minutes which is the way that this team wins games.
I'm new to the Ducks life and as a fan of the Angels, I was quite prepared for whatever's to come. They looked exhausted from kicking so much butt. But I'm with you. This lineup was bootylicious. Hopefully they get it together when they return home. GOOO DUCKS!
