Brad Treliving had allot of extra money this year with JT's haircut and Mariner's salary. Poor management and scouting has created the Toronto Vanillas. Who in the heck thought it was a good idea to pick up Dakota Joshua? Give me a break! Cap Hit of $3,250,000 to 2027-28. good grief! With the Leafs he has 5 points and -6 in 20 games. Joshua is not the only issue, but shines the light on scouting and management.
Finally! Somebody ACTUALLY talking about what Marner brought to the table. So much of this rhetoric about how "losing Marner has nothing to do with their problems", it drives me mad. He did so much for Toronto that fans don't seem to recognize the holes that opened when he left. Those holes have yet to be filled and those areas are a big part of where Toronto is struggling right now. He's not the only reason, obviously. But Toronto's play absolutely misses him.
Use Matthews as a way out for a decent, shorter term rebuild…
Toronto is in SERIOUS trouble. Again Habs 1st but Toronto is my second, because I loved Guy Lafleaur and Daryl Sitler.
Toronto's last chance was Cujo and that was a serious threat. They have never had a goalie since that can pick up the one critical save.
It's NOT Berube, although he is gonna pay the price sooner than later.

This is pretty much what I’ve been saying about the leafs all season. Can it blame on the loss of Marner or the defensive coaching changes, Berube’s system, etc. But at the end of the day the execution is very poor at the moment and will not be bailed out by goaltending. Something is off and i’m not sure if it’s something fixable.

It's bad and as someone not from Toronto it's beautiful
It's not as bad as it looks.. this season is a wash for sure, they will salvage it a bit but overall it will be disappointing. They may squeak into the playoffs but if they don't it's actually better for them. Hopefully in the bottom 5 but more than likely they will finish 6th last and get exactly 6th last in the draft so of course it goes bad. Next season, trades happen and they recover a bit and they will be better than this current year, it will be enough to earn them a good place in the standings and maybe get some traction to prove to their GM that they can do something and get a good trade before the deadline (next year) and they may even show an ability to fight those game 7's out of the way like a team that matters but they still won't succeed. The next season they will have a solid chemistry and under Berube they will work exactly as Berube requires to implement his true system. He will coordinate a good game plan and conquer his opposing coaches plans and overcome the seemingly insurmountable odds and win playoff series because of it. It will lead to a good playoff run but the West will have one of the best teams in the league at this time and the Leafs as good as they are at this time are still missing a key piece in the top 6. Next season they stick with the team they have, chemistry is great and they are one of the best teams in the league but because of a failure to create opportunities through the forecheck they still seem slightly lacking until they trade for 2 guys who are hungry for the puck in the Ozone and are relentless at getting it. The result is a stanley cup.

Part of the problem is that Treliving is an incompetent boob. When the Leafs end up in the inevitable rebuild, there is NO WAY IN HELL that Treliving should be anywhere near this organization at that point. He's already destroyed Calgary and made Florida two-time Stanley Cup champs and its possible the could do it again with Vegas. His contract should be bought out and he should be replaced with a GM that actually knows what he's doing.
