Elliotte Friedman on Tom Wilson’s hit, trade market and more
Hockey Night in Canada Insider Elliotte Friedman joined the guys and shared his take on Tom Wilson’s hit on Filip Chytil and the current state of the trade market.
They will bring back the "blindside" hit into the rules when superstars start to suffer concussions. It was brought in because Sidney Crosby was getting concussions. Which superstar will it be before they bring this back in.
I'd say minor penalty, and I'm not a fan of Tom Wilson or his hits. It's not clean, it would have been called if the refs are looking for a makeup call.
Who would even want to make a hit like that though ? I mean even if it’s “clean” you can see the guy is about to pass the puck with his head turned and you still run him full force.
Elliotte usually looks like he was just arrested for trying to steal quarters from a condom dispenser in a Downtown Eastside bar, but he's actually looking fairly respectable today.

The current center situation makes me think of all the first and second round picks we have been throwing about.
I know, that's not entirely fair, considering that some of those were spent wisely and you don't hit 100% in the draft or the trade market, but there it is all the same.
For a long time now, I cannot imagine how come Tom Wilson is even in this league anymore. How many suspensions has he had because of injuring players. He is a hazard to every player in the league. He could be a very valuable and well thought of player if he could only get away from goon type activity that he seems to be unable to control.
Friedman is a dinosaur. Wilson never attempted to play the puck. His intention was to deliberately injure a vulnerable opponent. Friedman obviously does not care about CTE. Anyone remember, Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Ralph Backstrom. I could on, but I won’t. Players safety is a joke and only protects the owners and the League from lawsuits.

That hit by Wilson was not just a little late. He had enough time to slow up or turn away.
