What’s really going on inside the NHL trade market ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving freeze? In today’s breakdown, we pull apart key take-aways from a revealing article and then apply it to the Montreal Canadiens’ outlook:
• A true seller’s market means very few teams are willing to give up pieces — so buyers are forced to overpay.
RG
• The Calgary Flames are holding a lot of leverage. They’re in a weak position in the standings yet have no urgency to sell unless offers are massive.
RG
• Teams like the St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks are “listening” but not in full panic-mode — making trade wheels slow to turn.
RG
• For the Canadiens: With injuries stacking and centre depth under pressure, this gridlock could either be an opportunity or a hurdle depending on how the front office plays it.
🔍 WHAT WE’LL COVER IN THIS VIDEO:
What does “seller’s market” really mean, and how does it impact trade prices in the NHL?
Why Calgary’s non-urgency is contributing to the market freeze.
The specific trade landscape for the Canadiens: Where we are now, what we need, major threats, and realistic trade targets.
My prediction: Will a “mistake” trigger a flurry of deals before the freeze? Or will everything stay locked in place?
How this affects your expectations for the rest of the season, especially if you’re following the Habs.
👇 LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS:
Which team do you think will break the freeze first and make a move?
Do you think the Canadiens should be buyers or sellers in this market?
What trade target would you like to see them go after given the current state of affairs?

people are freaking out about the team right now but I think we will see a good bounce back
Crosby! Crosby! Crosby! Crosby! Crosby!
It seems this management team and Mr. D'Amico overrate Reinbacher. I'll point out my bias, I never liked the pick, he hasn't shown why he was picked at #5
Id like to hear Marco's opinion on Kuznetzov to Montreal
Not much will happen, the issue with the habs is injuries, young team, and the worst goalies in the nhl, stat wise.
When we talk trades, we should not be freaking out about this player and that player and whatever the latest rumor is. (Unless you love click bait.) What we should be thinking strategically like Kent Hughes, because ultimately, he is the one that has the hammer. I think the strategic guidelines in his mind are: (1) we seek a player who is already capable of being a 2C, preferably left handed, (2) we are not trading the future away so the cost/benefit must favor Habs for the longterm, and (3) the player must fit in with the "culture."
This team is exactly where they’re supposed to be or maybe a little ahead of schedule. Fighting for a top 3 spot in the Atlantic. There’s no knee jerk reaction coming from management to reshape this roster because of injuries
Gallagher is kind of just a body now. He should be phased out.
Getting rid of Dvorak and Armia was a huge mistake.
Yeah it just feels like with the Center market how it is, we're more likely to get a winger if anything.
no disrespect to gally. he is a warrior and has given his body to the franchise. but they should consider doing the mark stone thing vegas does and put him on LTIR until the end of the season. it's a win-win. he can rest his body and the team can use the cap space to give the fans what they want and add a piece in the near term. in the moment he isn't bringing much to the table. again, i love the player and i get fired up every time there is a gally goal! but tbh that hasn't happened YET this season. go habs go
The habs don't have to trade anyone. If they finish a bit lower they get a better pick, so what's the problem?
wait? Joe Veleno is doing fine? My stats this year, 0-0-0, veleno stats this year, 0-0-0.
