Absolute monster W for habs
Let’s goooooooooo
I hope the Panthers go 32nd next season. I will send bad vibes to their team.
Ty Smilanic is a complete talent who can be relied on in all situations. He anticipates passes and can cut them off using his long reach. In defensive zone battles, Smilanic uses his frame efficiently to outmuscle competition and dig pucks out of scrums. – EliteProspects 2020 NHL Draft Guide
Lehkonen Outcome will be one of two things:
1) Traded for a first round pick = Habs win that deal
2) KH re-signs him for 3 @ 4yrs = Habs win that deal
Re: Chairot:
Habs get 3 pieces (including a 1st round pick) for a 20 game rental player they could very well bring back in the fall if things roll that way. This is a fleecing by KH & Gorton
Bye bye chiarot I will always love you Ben CHARIOT
Absolutely insane return for Chiarot!
Hughes and Gorton looking pretty great so far in the short time they've been here.
Engels confirmed on Twitter that there is no protection on the 1st rnd pick. So… As unlikely as it is… There's a chance.

Not sure how I feel about this one. It’s good to spam the 1st round but since the draft is in Montreal I’m getting flashbacks to Louis Leblanc
2023 is such a stacked draft. Not only Bedard, but Michkov as well and a plethora of other talent. That 1st round will be absolutely stacked with prospects and every pick we have in that bolsters our farm system even more.
Huge missed opportunity for a team like the leafs who desperately needed a big strong top 4 defensemen and to add insult to injury they might have to play him in the 1st round. Go habs go
Got to hope they have a shit injury filled season next year.
As a Canucks fan, after what that idiot did to you guys at the draft, I'm happy for you Habs fans. Florida got a D man that can help them win now, and you guys get a couple of high draft picks and a prospect. You're in a rebuild right now, so that's a pretty good haul, given the market. So what's JT Miller worth? LOL.
Both Gms did well. Haters gonna trash Ben, but the dude was straight lock down in last years Playoff run. Cats D looks nasty now. As for Habs, they get 1st rounder, late one tho, a 4th, and TY, who looks to be a good player but looked to be irrelevant in a filthy Cats farm system
Hughes just fleeced a GM who is gonna be up for GM of the year lol. Chiarot is going to be a great fit with Florida, but I think that getting that 3rd piece in that trade was great work by the Habs.
as great a haul we got for Ben .. this trade will look even better when he resigns with us in the summer …. GHG
the 2023 1st rd pick is not protected … hope Panthers go deep this year and bottom out next year 🙂
Top 10 protected (not that it matters).
With Chiarot gone this opens the door for Kaiden Guhle who was named captain of team Canada Jr's 🇨🇦 to move In 😎
The fact the pick isn’t protected could be huge because I think they could miss it next year
This is a win win I think he will resign here next season
From what I read this kid is a very fast skater !
Matt, Are you going to not make a video after every Habs game? Whether it's true or not. Keep up the great work.
The Habs should be looking to move Hoffman. Lehky has to draw some good value in a trade. I would rather keep him, and maybe trade Armia in the off season.
Chiarot will provide good value for Florida.
Chariot is the new Rivet trade.
What a joke
I hate it when players get traded. But that is the business. All the very best Ben 🙋🏻
When I saw the notification, I was afraid the player was going to be Carey Price. O.O
Getting rid of ben will help the tank. Muy bueno
kent hughes is a god
Huge return for Chiarot and im glad hes in Florida as I hope to see the Panthers win the cup this year. He belongs in a deep playoff run and hopefully that 1st turns into something massive.
We do a prospect draft in a dynasty league I'm in, and I took Smilanic in the 55-60th range. He was drafted 74th, but I had him 40th on a list I made based on Bob McKenzie's list and some other prospect sites. From what I understand, he's far from a sure thing, but has some upside.
Bedard or michkov. Maybe even michkov please
THN had Smilanic ranked as Florida's 7th best prospect, and the Panthers have a stocked cupboard, so thats pretty decent. Projects as a speedy 3rd liner with some offensive upside.
I am kind of torn here. I liked Charot. The games that he did not play in, the d was horrendous. I would have liked to see him next season starting with St Louis as the head coach. I think if they, and they should, revamp the d, he would have been a good mentor. It is great to get first round picks, but they really should have bolt on what they had last year. Get a player like Danault, and Perry. Price is not getting any younger and if he were to stay, first round picks are a mute point.
This year had been unbelievable. I just hope it doesn't take another 28 years to make it to the cup finals again.
Good luck Ben.
First round pick is unprotected. This is an amazing deal for Hughes. Very impressive. Go Habs!
Thank you Ben Chariot, your a class act ,you were the heart of the defense, and especially with the winding down of Weber s career last season. You became the guy. And maybe we ll get lucky and get you in the off season. But thank you for all you have done. I pleased with what we got for Chariot, proud of the Habs management sticking to their guns . This as we know was something that had to happen unfortunately, but we got max for him . Applause 👏 ✌ to Hugh's, and Gorton . Great job. This is great for the rebuild. My hats off to them . A little saddened ,it's going to be hard to replace a guy like that .Tons of heart. It's been rough to see where this team was headed, with such great players Weber ,Price ,Chariot, Perry ,and kk. Yes you could see the writing on the wall coming last season. So even though not surprising ,hard to accept the reality of this having to be torn down. Good luck Ben 👍 God bless. Now go Habs go ,the future will be bright fans ,we just have to be patient 👍.Great video Matt 👍.
Keep up the videos. It takes a lot of time, but the videos are great. Please do keep them up. This coming from a Habs fan in Vietnam.
Big return for Big Ben, the unprotected pick could be used to trade down or you never know what happens with the Panther's, especially if they go far this year.
Great to see you back. While the Habs are in a trading mood, the Leafs might like Nick Suzuki. We'll give you Holl.
The 1st round pic is lottery protected
Come back to making regular videos after wins and stuff ur the best habs content on YouTube
Hate the scabs but man they fleeced Florida in this deal . Hope you still suck for a long time
Too bad that 1st rounder is going to likely be in the 28-30 range. Florida isn't going anywhere.
Keep Lehkonen. He's got a good future, and he will be only 27 going into the next season. Lots of great hockey left in him. Chiarot could of course potentially come back to Mtl next season if they really wanted him.
Being an older old school habs fan i have had a very good look at how they operate.
IMO their scouts are utter garbage. The Caufield pick was easy i actually told buddy at work that i hoped they would get him because he will go later than he should because of his size and they did get him.
For me it is simple the habs have ALWAYS lacked the very top end player which is VERY poor scouting and managing because imo they have NEVER been a serious cup contender since 93.
They need to grab a serious top end FA threee of them to be exact to allow them to build a bonafide number 1 line.
They need more size they ALWAYS need more size but more importantly guys that win the small battles so even a smaller guy CAN work if he is tough enough. They need guys that can shooter, howitzers with good setup men and they need D men who know how to pinch in and pinch up.
The habs play a terrible simple system and imo it is not effective EVER.
This team needs a LOT of work and draft picks are not going to fix it although they will help or i should say COULD help.I can't remember if he is still there but that Timmons guy i think was the lead scout he needs to go and fast.I can recognize better drafts being drunk blind and watching Cheers reruns they need better scouting.
as to the all around reliable player yeah i remember a guy long ago Ryan Walter they said the same thing about,a crap player the habs acquired.Ty is on a UNi team full of over age players and yet the numbers are still very weak.Even his +16 is low compared to his teammates and with so many over age players they SHOULD be a top end team. This ty dud e is already 20 and imo he is going to the farm and then to some low end league right after that because they will only offer him a 1 year deal and they won't see much in that one year to keep him around.
A low end Florida pick imo this wasn't their best deal they shouldn't be paying half the salary for a low end pick.
As a matter of fact only a week ago i was sifting through past NHL picks a few good players were missed by too many bad scouts but typically there are no good players in the bottom end of round 1 picks and in case of Habs scouting 5 thumbs down don't expect their scouts to find a gem in the rough.
So go and Google the past drafts and yeah they won't be drafting what they actually need "top end talent" first line players but instead likely more smallish second line players.
If i was in charge i would of course still look for first rnd picks but i am going to drop all the wasted salaries and go after very good FA's NOT the second line ones that are over paid but first line players.I would rather player young prospects and stay at the bottom until i get an actual top 2 pick in consecutive years. The years of over spending on Gallahger Price Subban and MANY more even many of the 3/4/5 mill guys are over paid.Spend big get the top end guys go on a 3 year run then start again.
The Subban ordeal had many flaws to it from "Bergeron"to him getting too big losing mobility and a contract that should have had layers to it.
Yes go habs go
