  1. I think they are or at least really close. The addition of the new kids really raises the talent level imho. I expect around 92ish points and a wildcard.

  2. Is there one team in the league who shouldn't expect to make the playoffs in October… Or else why even lace up the skates. If your group is not ready for a push, then you didn't do your job as GM in the summer. Any team that skates on to the ice needs to have that mentality whether you are Buffalo or San Jose or the Red Wings. Every team has NHL players and Coaches, if the sum is greater than the parts (as it should be) then it should be on the radar. Look at the 2022 Canadiens who went to the SCF with some good goaltending and a mix of guys not much better than today's bottom feeders. Lead the team captains and coaches and good things will happen.

  3. If they don't make it this year I think it's a culture issue and Larkin should get the C taken away.

  4. Yeah, Copp needs to step up. Problem is that no one gets it. They don't have depth and lack toughness. They can make 1 playoff run then guys will get run down and hurt. We have a team of 3rd liners. I think it is a we better though.

  5. What 5 games into the season and people are making predictions? That's a joke, seriously.

  6. It is playoffs or bust. Detroit not only made the playoffs 25 consecutive years, but they were legit cup contenders most of those years and won 4 cups in that time. Red Wings fans got used to winning. Back then it wasn't "playoffs or bust" it was "win the cup or bust". It's been 9 seasons since they made the playoffs and even more since they were a genuine cup contender. It is definitely make the playoffs or bust.

  7. Why are you talking about playoffs now!!?? Waist of everyone 's time. Speak about it in February! I am not even speaking about how many things can go wrong between now and then! Well, you are getting paid for this useless conversation so…

  8. IF done properly, and Detroit continues to draft high caliber players in the first round, if we keep doing this and never trade any, our team should theoretically not miss playoffs for a long time. Now, does a superstar come out worth trading firsts for? maybe. I think this is the long term plan for Yzerman where we become competitive every year rather than operate as a boom or bust franchise.

  9. Not one single player or team is thinking about tanking in October. Sports analysts are so dumb sometimes

  10. They were ready the last two seasons but screwed it up in March particularly. I post this every where but their combined record in March the last two seasons was 7-19-2 and they missed by a total of 6 points over those 2 seasons. The were good enough then and good enough now. They just can't get out of their own way when the pressure starts to build late in the season.

I loved McLellan's comments after game 1. "You guys sick of this yet?" The coach can only do so much. It's up to the players to perform. They look like world-beaters one night and the worst team in the league others. Some national media people thought he was overreacting after just the first game of 82 but anyone who has watched this team the last 2-3 years knew exactly what he was talking about and loved it.

  11. People don’t understand the ā€œYzerplanā€ was made up by the media. Yzerman had to come in and completely fix what Holland did. Yzermans actual team is now finally hitting the ice. It has only been 6 years with him and the first 3 were him trying to fix our cap and line us up to get picks and build from within.

  12. glad todd said what he said. Fans have been so frustrated, especially the past 3 years, and it felt like he said what we were all thinking. But, i wont get my hopes up until the end of the year – need to avoid the annual post ASB collapse

  13. Holland made this teams so overloaded with deadweight that we were expected to not make the playoffs until 2029, Yzerman's hiring was huge and the days of us being a basement dweller and getting frequently blown out under Blashil are far in the past. Since the 2021-2022 season its been a gradual process of getting his prospects onto the ice but we are finally seeing the Yzerplan unfold.

  14. It’s not playoffs or bust we won’t be in trouble if we don’t but it doesn’t matter cause we are making the playoff this

  15. Todd is setting the tone. I really like his press style, watching Newsie come out and just say ā€œyeah we got blown out tonight but I really liked the compete level and we’ll get the next oneā€ got real old. You get to the playoffs by winning, and winning every game you can. Game 1 to game 82, you win as many as possible. So it’s not too early for him to be saying what we’re all thinking. New coach, new culture, and hopefully some damn team identity soon. This team likes to win, but they have gotten used to not hating losing more.

  16. I predict 42 wins for the Wings this year, which could potentially get them in the final wild card spot. However, let’s talk about the fact that Chris Osgood should be in the Hall of Fame.

  17. They’ve been ready.

Last 2 seasons a key center man goes down… without that, this would be their 3rd straight playoff run…

Now, they’re in a spot where if somebody goes down anywhere, somebody can step in…

The roster has improved analytically year after year since Yzerman, and we have tons of cap space…

Only small minded, highlight reel, espn watching morons think otherwise.

  18. Less travel in the Eastern conference like they wanted but results are embarrassing. I think this yr is a must for the post-season

  19. I do love the optimism in these comments.
Most of you some fair points.
The average fan could see what was needed. More shots on goal and less shots from the opposing team. When you are being out shot 2:1 almost every night, sometimes it felt like 3:1, that formula isn't gonna win you many games.
The fact they were in the playoff hunt at the end was amazing in and of itself.
The youth is coming, Yzerman played a few years before the team built a dynasty adding Federov in the draft in 1990 and a few other youngsters that were key to their dynasty years in the 90s.
I feel Steve knows that feeling and he just wants Larkin to hold a lot little longer, the cavalry is coming and his patience will put him in the HoF in the end.

  20. The goaltending and defense is still a massive problem. I dont think they make it. Cam Talbot is streaky, he was great to start the year last season too then he fell off. I don't trust Gibson at all. The defense is too young and the veterans on it suck. That top 6 is for sure elite, but that bottom 6 is average at best

  21. Fans have been too hard on Chiarot. He is earning every penny of his contract. I hate to sound the alarm but once this year is up if he doesn't resign they're going to need somebody.

  22. It’s already a win this season since we dumped some of the worst guys and brought up the kids. 2022-2023 signings were a complete failure. Pro scouting should have been fired

  23. Heard once that the Larkin guy like poisoned and gave everyone on the old pro team disease and stole their pain medication scripts and they knew they could all become pro hockey players instead of them moving west or east or waiting decades and not making it. Not many people played hockey at all. Hockey was fucking stupid and weird that it had its own history to it. They must all face north or northwest that wanted to play it or watch there was no one passed us to us
