   0:11 The Sabres, after 40:00 in their Monday Eastern Time game, led the Oilers 3–1. That this regular season the Leafs have 6 regulation wins will mean the Sabres won’t displace the Leafs’ 9th-place position in the Eastern Conference wildcard race, with the Sabres with 4 RWs, with a 5th for the Sabres to come should the Sabres beat the Oilers in regulation. That the Leafs remain oh-so-close to falling to last in their own conference is an embarrassment in itself, with the last season during which that occurred having been that of 2015–16.

   Brad Treliving has been failing upward his whole career. Ruined the Coyotes, then ruined the Flames (despite being gifted an amazing roster), now ruining the leafs.

    This guy is not keeping up with the actual stats. They may be rock bottom right now but there has been a handful of improvements amongst alot of players and knies has the exact same points as marner did last year.

    here is what is so hilariously wrong with this line of thought and how people tend to focus on one thing and not see the big picture. Everyone is making such a big deal about the Leafs being one game under .500. The Edmonton Oilers who made it all the way to the Finals the past two seasons are only a .500 hockey team and yet no one is talking about them. There is literally one game difference between the two teams and yet no one mentions Edmonton just Toronto.

    They should genuinely consider trading Matthews and Nylander, get ton of draft picks and just straight up rebuild. I simply don't see what moves they can make in the off-season to become contenders again anytime soon.

    there is no passion on this team. They let their teammates get hammered and seem to not care. They obviously have the offensive talent, but not the commitment to playing D which is why their goaltending and record sucks

    offense is not an issue they second in the league in goal the injuries to their d core is major losing Tanev a premier defensive dman and building chemistry with so many new additions add Woll absense and now Stolarz's injury

    The Leafs also gave up their 2026 first round pick to acquire Carlo, so it's impossible for them to tank for McKenna or acquire a top-5 pick. They also have no 2nd round pick.

    It's just so funny because normally teams with a core of players they build around would have won a cup and had some deep playoff runs at this point and trading away draft picks to load up is apart of that. But the fact that the Leafs core is now aging, their draft picks are gone and they have 8 first round exits in 10 years with only two playoff series wins is insane. Like at least with teams like the Penguins or the Bruins they won a cup or went to the cup and went on a decent number of deep playoff runs so regression was expected but now even they are better than the Leafs lol, also adds insult to injury that the Bruins get their pick this year if they don't get a top 5 pick. I think the biggest mistake they made was not trading Marner before his no trade clause kicked in, they clearly needed to change the core of the team while they were in their prime window and yet they didn't. Florida did that and boy did it ever work out for them. I can't even really blame management other than that it's just the culture of the team like they did everything they could and yet they just couldn't get it done.

    As a habs fan it makes me so happy to see the continued pain this loser franchise and its fans have endured. Their window is closed, zero picks and prospects to trade for top tier help, Matthews walks when his contract is done and then right back to another rebuild hahahahahahababahahahahahaha

    ‘Captain Underpants’ has these guys dialled in to lose. It has been a decade of nonsense and disappointment . This season is the beginning of the end of a dynasty that never was. Scorched earth policy is the only option. Hopefully the next version of this team gets it right. When his contract ends, give Matthews a one way ticket back to the USA.

    Total mess in Toronto, with no easy fixes. They might just have to ride out the season, and go back to the drawing board next summer. I don't see playoffs for them this year, and if not, major moves made (including possibly Matthews) next summer.

    lol the writing was on the wall. Matthews has never been a leader of this team and they relied heavily on Marner every year to get to the playoffs but nobody paid any attention because Matthews scored 60 goals. 50 of them directly set up from Marner who was a much better driver of play. Matthews is a complimentary player and Willy collected his bag so he has gone back to regular Willy who’s most concern is with his purse collection

    What's the back-up plan? Pray the back-up goalie becomes a starter. No, seriously. Look at how many seasons it has gone from,

    "X Goalie is bad now. Y Goalie will save us! Y Goalie is our saviour!"

    Then turns to,

    "Y Goalie is bad. Z Goalie will save us!"
