Is the smith machine acceptable

  1. Mike is absolutely correct. Do whatever you can. I started out deadlifting with no bar in my hands. Now I’m comfortably rocking 315lbs. Start, repeat, be patient, and progress will follow.

  2. It was interesting how Mike broke character and his voice went from a supportive high, to an ‘eye-roll’ low.

  3. Mike is a real class act people like to talk shit about him, but I met him at seminars and he’s a real down-to-earth person 2016 I was in a terrible accident. My whole left side was basically done. I went from the 2200 pound total and power lifting to barely be unable to pick up the bar. Mike told me if you mind believes it your body will achieve it again I had two major surgeries. I’m finally close to getting back all my strength hopefully one day I could see Mike in person again and tell him how he motivated me and I like to say thank you to him. You never met him don’t pass judgment on him. He’s a genuinely good person.

  4. He needs to stop with the face stuff before it's too late. He's a good looking guy anyways, no need for it. There's no shame in aging

  5. Personally ive felt more traction in my lats with rows on the smith , could be a placebo thing but nonetheless

  6. i do it because the gym at my company doesn't have anything else. i feel for SLDL it allows you to get your hips back and get a real good stretch in the hamstrings.

  7. Mike is a class act man. If that's what's right for you, right now, then keep working. If you can though, try dumbell deadlifts, my personal favourite, you can't lift as much overall weight, bit it improves so much of your core, your grip strength and your overall strength.. For the heavier weights barbell is the way forward but for sports or bodybuilding, you can't go wrong with a few 50'skg's in each arm and slow on the eccentric, pause, explode controlled on the constrensic working your whole body up over time always tense at the top of the deadlift all your core and body muscles as much as possible also. Or lighter heavier slightly different form whatever wherever you are right now like Mike said your out there, your working.

  8. Gets asked for advice

Says "do whatever is best for you"

    🤣🤣🤣

    What a joke.

  9. Planet fitness sucks but they are everywhere pretty much. Since i travel for work thats the best i can do . When im at home i have a local gym thats great

  10. For the basic average ordinary person which is 99% of people in a gym, it does not matter. You don't need specific equipment you just need to get in there and do something

  11. Watching Mike reminds me of when you are about to play a video game, say a first person shooter, and they first show the backstory, which is cgi generated meant to look real, but something is off.

  12. He’s trying so hard not to absolutely destroy the guy asking the question. 😂

Smith Machines are terrible. They promote bad form, lock you into an unnatural range of motion, and fool you into thinking you’re actually lifting weight.

AVOID…unless you’re at a crappy hotel gym and that’s all they have!!

  13. Mike lifts everybody up you gotta admire his positive attitude, if more influencers were like him the old interweb would be a much better place.

  14. Yup. If you’re fatiguing yourself, you’re doing something. Obv a smith machine deadlift isn’t as good as a free weight deadlift, but it’s way better than just letting yourself be fat and weak

  15. He's right. He's at least doing something which is always better than nothing. You're body doesn't care what it is as long as you're putting it to work.

  16. As a personal trainer, you can use it, BUT don’t try to lift as if it’s a free bar it’s not the same, some tip stif leg or conventional, stay close to the bar touching your legs and lean above it, you can hit upper glutes and hamstrings nicely on the smith machine. Don’t try to hit a pr like a free bar, take it as new exercise
