  1. Having not watched this yet.

Life time Nordiques/ Avs fan who lives in Edmonton.

Mcdavid is the best player maybe ever who has an effort problem.

Nathan Mackinnon works incredibly hard off the ice and even harder on the ice. Shift by shift night by night Mac puts in harder efforts with his bluecollar approach. Mac>Mc

  2. Mcdavid would probably have more than 29 points now if he was on the Avs, so I think he is still overall better. I'm saying this as someone who thinks Edmonton has no shot this year

  3. The argument is actually fairly close.

The main issue with McDavid is that he suffers from a fairly poor roster outside of him while MacKinnon has a more talented team around him. McDavid would be better otherwise. The other problem is, of course, the fact that he's a machine when Draisaitl's around and so comes the Draisaitl Merchant Theory.

One of the things with MacKinnon though is that he's still one of the biggest contributors to the Colorado Avalanche in their games. Not to mention that he puts in a greater effort than many players across the NHL right now.

That's not to say McDavid doesn't; again, he just suffers from being on the Edmonton Oilers.

  4. MacKinon is 3.4 points per 60 icetime. McDavid is 4.2 – there is no argument. As MacKinon fan there are 3 objectively better forwards in nhl than he is. Kucherov Pastrnak McDavid all of them have better points per icetime and better 5v5

  5. I've been an Avs fan since I started watching hockey back in 1997. I'm a huge MacKinnon fan and I will always pick him to be on a team over others because I love how he plays the game. But I do think if you switched them and McDavid was on the Avs, he would be killing it more than normal. The Avs have a much better roster and are better coached year after year for the last 4-5 years. Now with that said, if Mac was on the Oliers instead of McDavid, do they win at least 1 of the last 2 cups? That's a tough one. Could Mac have got them over the hump? Possibly but hockey is a team sport and the Oliers just aren't built to finish. It's amazing that they have made it to back to back finals and that's mainly because of McDavid and Drisital carrying the team.

  6. Ducks fan here. And I like McKinnon's game better as he is just a physical beast on the ice where he can score, can get big hits, and is one of those players any teammate can get behind and play for. McDavid is just to me only good at scoring power play goals and drawing penalties. It's why people despise him and the Oilers. McKinnon is none of those things as he is physical and has everything you can ask for in a hockey player. And its why even as my Ducks face the Avs tonight, there is more respect for him and that Avalanche team as he is a great hockey player who plays for a great hockey team.

  7. I don't care about points beyond those that help get wins, especially in the playoffs. Nate is my GOAT but he has to start showing up in the playoffs and getting cups. This Avs team are criminal underachievers for having arguably 2 of the best 5 players in the league, and they also had Rantanen for many of these underhwelming runs.

  8. Love McDavid being in Edmonton but I think mackinnon is a better all around player. Mackinnon make other players around him better, and McDavid too, but not as much. Mackinnon also has a better supporting cast, I would trade both nurse and Bouchard for Makar in a heartbeat. Nurse and Bouchard are absolutely terrible defensively, nurse wouldn't even be here if it weren't for McDavid, he pulled strings to get nurse a contract that he'll never be able to honor. But yeah, I believe mackinnon is better all around.

  9. Coming from a Stars fan who dislikes both teams. McDavid is the better player. He’s the best player I’ve ever seen play hockey. The “Mac won a cup” thing doesn’t really move me considering McDavid won the Con Smyth on the losing team in the finals. That’s just as impressive as being a part of a team that won a cup in terms of individual performance. A cup is a team accomplishment. Plus that 2022 team was an absolute wagon and way more talented than any oilers team mcdavid has been on. Mackinnon is incredible but he’s just not quite on McDavid’s level. Y’all are gassing up his defense but he’s a strait up poor defender. lol That being said, he has the puck on his stick so much that he doesn’t really have to play a lot of defense bc he’s a puck possession machine. This is like comparing Wayne and Mario back in the day. It’s close now but I think we all know who will go down in history as the goat when all is said and done…

  10. I think people confuse standalone skills vs game performance. Mac is a level above McDavid. McDavid just doesn't matter that much when he's out there, but then does something fancy. That's not enough.

  11. I think there are 2 questions that people interpret for this issue. 1. Who has more personal talent? 2. Who is able to produce at that elite level and elevate their team, but also has incredible talent?
I think its clear McDavid is better skilled, especially skating and offensively and MacKinnon isnt far behind. But to me MacKinnon seems to overall have better team success beacause of his play and impact on ice. The Championship also helps put MacKinnon ahead.
But if all was equal, i think McDavid would always out produce MacKinnon in longer season individual stats

  12. Mcdavid has lost his winning mentality, i dont know why he resigned with edm. He is surrounded by a culture of loss
