First Four Minute Mile-HQ(Roger Bannister:1954)

Nearly sixty years on and still one of the most iconic sporting moments in history,Bannister had intended to retire after the 1952 Olympics, but having only come in 4th in the 1500m final, hung on for another two years to make an attempt on the holy grail of middle distance running, the four minute mile.Knowing that two other milers had the same intent -John Landy of Australia and Wes Santee of the USA- Bannister ran very early in the season at Iffley Road in Oxford, and, paced by his old freinds Brasher and Chataway, came home under the magical time, taking 2 seconds off of Gunder Hägg’s nine year old mile WR.Amazingly after all the hype the record only stood for six weeks, when John Landy ran 3.57.9 in Finland .Bannister then went on that season to defeat Landy in the “Mile of the Century”in the Empire Games, before winning the European 1500m title and then retiring from the sport, aged 25.

  1. I am manifesting THE ROGER BANNISTER EFFECT for the interpersonal realization of noticing our shared consciousness. We notice the same Pure Spirit in each other and how much, in greater and lesser degrees, it is tainted by impurity of the lower self. We realize we are the same inside ourselves. It is the culmination of the JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSAL SELF. People will be realizing the CENTER in the coming years.

  2. Part of me wonders if two tribesmen in Africa 1000 years ago didnt go “Race you to that tree” and broke the 4 minute mile lol

  3. DR. ROGER BANNISTER was an English athlete as well as a medical professional. He was the race one mile in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds. He did this at Oxford in English on MAY 6th 1954.
    Q. how did roger bannister fell in the first lap of the race

    A. The first four minutes is an excellent revelation of Dr. Roger Bannister, a British athilete and neurologist. He ran one mile in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds in 1954 when he was 25 . He narrated the stress and strain he underwent to achieve this record. It is a step by step narrative of his running race at Ox ford. The great thing is he took his running race as a personal challenge.

In the one mile running race at Oxford in 1954, ther were totally six participants. But in the very first circle, there were far behind their counterparts During the firs lap (circle),Brasher was in the lead, Bannister was in the second place and chataway was in the third place. Bannister felt dissatisfaction because he thought that they were running wery slowly. He didn't think of his position.

As there was no change in the speed, Bannister felt so impatient that she shouted 'faster' His idea was Brasher should run faster. But Brasher kept his head (calm) and didn't pick up his speed. Bannister was excited and in the excitement he forgot about his own speed. He also felt that Brasher could have run the first quater in 55 seconds. Later he realized that he should have run faster .

  4. Apparently the timekeeper that day was a certain "Norris Mcwhirter". .the old chap on "Record Breakers." 80"s kids t.v show.. Just sayin.

  5. No aerodynamic shorts or fancy Nike super shoes or lights to keep the runner up to speed. Just good old fashioned hard work

  6. I used to run one quarter mile in 60 sec. Once in 57. One lap only. But to run four laps, each on one under 60 sec, is amazing. In 1954. !

  7. In 1968 I was 16. I ran a marathon in 3 hrs 45 min.. not bad for a modest 2 miler, one miler, in high school. But ahead of me at the finish, yards ahead of me was a 76 yr old old man. !! I did the math, he was born in 1892!!. That means in 1912 he was 20! Could have been in the Olympic Games of 1912, Paris I think!!! True story. Im 73 now, can hardly jog a few steps. I plan to live to 100,, 😂and be shot by a jealous husband. lol. Or just die at 82 in bed, or wherever.

  8. Compare the theatrics of Roger Bannister after the race to Sam Ruthe who made it look like a walk in the park. 🙂 ✌

  9. His family and y'all are going to be held accountable for being involved in the illuminati Freemason Epstein Network and you're all gonna give back what you stole from me too

  10. Although Roger Bannister ran the first accurately timed sub-4 minute mile, it had likely been done unrecorded many times before by East African runners.

  11. In terms of famous firsts in my opinion – Bannister (4 minute mile), Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norway (Everest), Eliud Kipchoge (sub 2 marathon)… but why not Bob Hayes (first 100m sub 10). I think because of tailwinds, hand timing etc Hayes never gets the attention he deserves. Sub 10 was huge. We remember Lewis, Bolt, Owens… but not Hayes.
