A 29-year old goaltender with the worst injury record of any goalie in the NHL. Nobody is saying what needs to be said: Thatcher Demko's career as a goaltender is DONE. FINISHED. OVER. It's just like Bobby Orr's knee. Yes Demko might come back for a while, but it's pretty obvious that any athlete who has such consistently serious injury problems is NOT going to get better as he gets older. Another sad loss for the loyal Canucks fans, who deserve better. In addition to this huge disappointment, Canucks have the most over-rated, over-paid, totally disappointing franchise "Superstar" in Elias Petterson EP 40 who is also NOT going to get better. I predict that Petey will also get injured in the near future, and will end up just like Demko.
And thus they never should have traded Shilovs in the OFFSEASON knowing Demko is an eggshell… Traded him for next to nothing while he's winning games for PIT…
Woodley can't be serious about the prospects of Demko being able to sustain & survive a deep dive into a playoff run. Playing every other day & adding travel? I think the writing is on the wall. The craziness of it all is a new contract for 3 years at 8.5 per.
Do canuck fans really feel excitement about this team anymore? Do the rest of you feel like these are just randoms wearing canucks jerseys… we have no real leadership on this team. The entire franchise is made out of glass and our future is bleak to say the least. Our " captain " maybe one of the best players in the NHL but he is not a leader and doesn't want to play here .. and can you blame him?

Didn’t Vancouver have a talented young goalie so many fans adored, who they gave away to keep Demko? This young goalie is crushing it in Pittsburgh. I was upset initially, when that trade happened, but now I am so happy it did and Arty is in a better spot for him to thrive. He is crushing it now and it’s not even spring Šilovs time. Can’t wait for playoffs.
I said this a couple years and several injuries ago about Demko, that he reminds me a lot of Cory Schneider in his days with the New Jersey Devils – the injury bug is becoming a pattern, and no matter how hard he tries, his body will not be well enough to allow him to perform like his talents should allow him to. This is, obviously, to no fault of Demko, but it is a sad and unfortunate reality that the Canucks brass had failed to accept when they made their goaltending decision during the off-season. I know the team didn't have a tonne of cap room, but keeping three goalies at the NHL level would have probably been a better idea than trading Silvos for a fourth round pick.
Interesting that Woodley discussed how the Canucks were worst with the backdoor play – and I thought this Canucks defence was supposed to be the strong suit of the team?!
He's compensating for past injuries, and this creates stress on other parts, so now those are breaking. He's not going to get magically healthy, it's only going to get worse for Demko, poor guy. We should have kept Silovs and traded Demko. This Management started making bad decisions when they gave EP40 that ridiculous contract, it's only got worse from there.
