You can feel the copeium emenating from Adam… well we lost a star that often got more points than our guy that we really think is a star but hey we got a good bottom 6 guy that might not play… need to build a culture like Florida.. a warm place all year round where you can pay a guy 8 million like Bennett the reigning consmythe winner cause he gets to keep all 8 million and that makes his salary equivalent to most 11-14 million dollar players on other teams… so you can have a team full of guys making 8-10 million that are actually some of the highest income players in the league… I mean common Florida can afford Brad Marchand at 5.25 million for 6 years and he’s 37!!! No other team would have those balls
Mitch was a bit of a lightning rod of criticism. TBH I question why Matthews also takes us for every last cent, as does Nylander, but at least they didn’t wait until the last minute to show commitment. Only Tavares has given us a deal.
I think it started with Marleau, a guy historically all about getting paid, and his influence on the young guys. Terrible signing.
Vegas now has #2,4 and 5 pick from the 2015 nhl draft.

My Thoughts on Marner He still a A-Hole . For the past 2-3 yrs his mind was on a🌴Hot Climate 🌴 , I believe he was talking to Vegas behind closed doors no doubt about it for a while . Marner indirectly gave us the finger 🖕 Btw my sons first Jersey was Marner n my Son is outraged n can’t stand what he has done in the playoffs for 7-8 yrs and now a VGK A travesty for my son.What’s next Mathews waves his contract n puts a puck in our A-Hole ? I wouldn’t doubt it
None of this matters since the Panthers will win the next 5 Stanley Cups and the NHL will be boring as a result.
I honestly didn't know Marner's a local guy … I always thought he' was from out of town/province, even American, dude didn't give that vibe. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate how he conducted himself, very talented, very skilled, but yeah … nothing about him indicated to me he was a local guy who grew up loving the Leafs … zilch
Personally I think when Vegas sees what Mitch does in the Playoffs they'll trade him to EFFING BUFFALO where all players go to die.
So I actually MET Mitch Marner in a "Walking around the neighbourhood" (ie non NHL/Hockey event) and he seems like an honest nice guy. The problem for me is saying to the team that gave u ur dream "Im not negotiating with u" is a bit of a slap to the face imo.
Should of traded him summer 2023, would have gotten way more back for him ( couple of 1st rounders, good.prospects) especially if they retained about 2 million

I have not bought leaf tickets in years, but im buying tickets to his return just so i can boo this mother trucker lol.. my first jersey was not a marner jersey. it was a Clark jersey.. i have not bought
a jersey in a long ass time either, but im buying a Knies jersey ASAP.

What I don't get is this – IF Mitch started to feel/know that Toronto was no longer a good fit for him TWO years ago, why did he drag this out for so long? Why not discreetly go to Treliving and tell him "Hey Tre, i'm open to a trade, here is a list of 3-5 destinations" ala Matthew Tkachuk. He wouldve been traded to a preferred destination TWO years ago and Leafs wouldve received a king's ransom. Win-win.
This trade is brad way of redeeming himself for letting Tkachuk to walk into free agency
Getting anything that wasn't just a throw away late draft pick for Marner was a miracle in and of itself.
Maybe Marner made not good passes and Marner at Times throw the game away on purpose and made ballerina spinorama no look passes and picked and choose to be good and not to be good and he had an ego bruise problem and he was envious of Matthews getting his money and Nylander getting his money I read a comment on a video chat on YouTube the person knows Marner and said that Marner is a self absorbed person and yes Marner had it hard in Toronto what Babcock did to him and fans dumping garbage and dumping Montreal Canadiens gear on his property and destroying his property and putting his street address online and telling people to go to his house and harrass him telling him how they feel think of him and held at gun point and having his vehicle stolen as much as it sucks for him to go through that it could have been avoided by showing up and taking home town discounts instead of having an ego problem and wanting every cent of the cap and allowing his father interfering and going to the 3rd round or finals or winning the cup would have changed things nobody should harrass athletes and there families but as Leafs fans we been waiting since 1967 and the last time we made the 3rd round was 2003-04 since then tank for some years then multiple first round game 7 choke and 2 second round losses fans have a right to be upset.
Don’t get too sentimental about any player on the team. They didn’t get it done. No championship(s). They had regular season success, sure. Move on. Find another guy who can help the team. This is the salary cap era. Success looks very different than it did in previous era’s.
I'll say it. It's a pretty wild take, to say while a player is literally getting death threats and his address posted online after the playoffs to be like "We aren't as bad as other markets!".
Get rid of the salary cap..
I think Marner can take a pointer on the Lorentz deal, you can chase the bag but put the fan base through hell and you get sht on. Fans aren't asking Marner for a hometown discount but how he handled his contract negotiations was past unreasonable

The fact that Leaf media and fans see Marner as the reason for lack of team success in the playoffs is mind boggling. Marner is a set up man so he makes those better who play with him. On the other hand Mathews is a goal scorer who does not. It was Nylander who should have been moved when his stock was high and contract came up. Now with Tavaras at 4 mil and cap going up you lose Marner for next to nothing. I think patience would have been the better move here. I guess we'll see what happens now.
