The leafs are a bad team defensively
While for much of this regular season, goaltending for the Leafs has been poor, so has been the defensive awareness of so many non-goalie skaters on the roster.
The Leafs need both beef up its defence and goalie.

The coaches are great before or after the are with Toronto. Matthews is a huge problem. It's obvious he does not want to play Berube's system. He as a captain should be motivating and getting the players involved and buying into the system. He is NO captain. He motivates nobody. He is dead inside and it shows. Toronto ran the wrong guy out of town. Now they are are stuck with primadonna in the league #34. Stolarz has always been a backup. His new contract is backup money. If I were Stolarz I would be on the phone with my agent.

Maybe the head injury he sustained in the playoffs last season has affected his game. Just a minor change to the brain can be devastating for athletes who need to perform at the very top level.

Stolarz is playing subpar but the team is playing terrible. If the teams play wasn’t a total mess he would atleast be around .900+. Our defense cant make a pass. A lot of our players can’t make a play. We look super slow and predictable out there.
Potvin , cujo and Freddy are the only true number 1 goalies , I guess Belfor as well although he was at the end of his career but mainly those 3 are the only true number 1s the leafs have had the past 33 years . #16 just isn't missed offensively but defensively as well , I think most are overlooking that fact in his absence. #34 should have been traded years ago , he's no McKinnon , no Crosby , no mcdavey, he can't carry the team , in fact if you look at the leafs record with him out of the line up during the core four era it's pretty good .

I was baffled that he spoke out against his team for their poor play in that game. He should have called them out for not being strong around their own net and not protecting him from the physical abuse he was taking but NOT their gameplay. Calling out Nylander too who has easily been the Leafs best player this season. Keep it within the room. No reason to put added pressure from the fans and media on yourself.

Yes! The Leafs are not playing well in front of him but it seemed that Stolarz was able to bale them out more last year.
The guy was going to be the Leafs savior in net, but found out that ultimately, he has a Faberge' Egg mounted on a Pixie Stick, Toronto should have realized that last year when a glancing blow ( I know I know, sore spot for Leaf fans still) took him out for the duration, Bobrovsky takes harder hits than that to the head from his own teammates in the crease.
