  1. Didn’t even consider the fact Dobes shouldn’t have been made available. However it’s ok. I hope the boys rally behind their young tendy and show him the ropes as far as the mentality of the game. For a guy who’s so hard on himself he’s doing remarkably well. Now imagine he clears his head and dials in. Watch out!

  2. lets talk about MSL not playing him when he was hot!!!! thats the thing that we should be talking about!!!! i told you last week that our leadership hung him out to dry with no where to go but down… the kid was rising!!! hockey 101 play the hot f-ing goalie . monte is no cary price or dominic hasek , plus he was playing like dog poop !! no reason to sit dobes for over a week period…. we got tons of talent & more coming, its time to get a leader to get these kids to skating all game long. the leader im talking about doesn’t have to be a coach on the bench.. it could be a player who can talk to the boys & the coaches to get there heads out of there asses & put the right guys in & for the right minutes.. its frustrating watching the inconsistency of our play & who is playing & especially the defense laying on the ice!!!!!!!!!!

  3. There was an episode on the The Rebuild doc series when Dobes was first called up last year. He was nervous and said to the doc crew that he was not comfortable at first. He has some sort of anxiety condition in those interview speaking situations.

  4. Do you find that when our best goalie, Dobes gets the start its done more than a day I advance. We play the very bad goalie it is only hours before. Send snacks to the AHL.

  5. Coach is it possible that the behaviour of savage fans towards Monty and seeing what Monty did to bring them to the playoffs considering that Monty has been there for a while already. He might have been thinking to himself if I start losing is it possible that I might be treated like a pariah ljust ike Monty was? I don’t want to have to face that and it’s just another thing added on the pile that of things that adds pressure in a young goalie’s mind. We all know that often enough when we break it’s just not one thing but the compounding effect of several things that by themselves are manageable but the additions of several just like you described in your video that usually is what breaks the dam and then you’re no longer in control of yourself.

  6. Dobeš is young and ambitious and just had a dream taken from him. Hopefully it just pisses him off and it brings out his inner Hašek.

  7. Hi Mr. Coach Talk (i know, i am terrible, like a little Gallagher in front of your net! I loooooooove pests!!!)…

First, the Dobes thing. I think you are spot-on about the grown-ups needing to protect him! That said, he also endeared me. In an earlier game he made a sprawling save and tried to push the puck forward onto the transition, I saw something I see in the other puppies, Hutson and Demidov. That is, the motivation of helping his team win and an insatiable desire to continue to get better. These three are serious about business, extremely talented but also humble, and most of all they find a way to fit into the team and win games…I cried all the way home after my last high school soccer game where we lost 7-1 in post-season. I was the captain and loved my teammates, and we were down 7-0 at half (wind was terrible, and we were going against it, our clears were reversing). But I was all amped up at halftime, actually believing we could come back and trying to encourage everyone. We got a goal quickly, but that was it, and I felt like I let everyone down and knew it was the last time I would play with them because I was graduating… Dobes felt something similar maybe. In any case, this is the kind of player we want and we should rejoice we have these puppies who are full-on leaders in their own way! It will make us great for a long time to come!!!

Second, the Utah thing. Although they may be talented, they are in the weaker conference this year. Last I checked ALL the eastern teams were above 500, so where are they winning? They are beating the west teams. I've seen this before with Washington leading the conference with most points, but doing so while playing in some cheesy division. Around 2010 my friend was worried we had to play the Caps first round and I was like, "they are a paper tiger" and then showed them their division in the newspaper.

Lastly, the strategy thing. It kind of (pleasantly) surprised me because I thought it would be copycat of NJ strategy, but you differentiated the Utah team from NJ a bit. Awesome details. So here's your list of things: (1) control neutral zone (kill speed, use sticks), (2) defense should rattle them by being physical on board to win puck, (3) special teams and discipline, (4) depth scoring, (5) score early (and often)!!!!! I am ready for Utah! Let's watch them execute!!!! (Then maybe if something strikes me I do a detailed how-did-that-just-happen analysis of a play that interests me. I would love to do that for a job) WOOOOH!

  8. You are totally spot on regarding Dobeš. About everything. Here in Czech Republic (please not Czechia) Is Dobeš since last season THE THING. Playing fór the best franchise in the NHL Is a Big thing. The possibility to be call up for the national team Is even more. Even the Czech goalie batlle (Vejmelka x Doby) Is hughe. So a lot of pressure here. But from the source close to his family i know that usualy He Is thriving in big games. Mentally. So je should be fine. Why Is Monty in the net right now against Utah Is bug fail from coaching staff. Lets se how this goalie saga will Develop in the near future. All the best from Prague mate. Really like your "coaching background" opinions. Take care. Big fan here. Roman
