Gotta See It: Manson absolutely lays out Smith

Watch Josh Manson’s blatant head shot to lay out Reilly Smith as he enters the zone.

  1. I thought it was a good hit with the skates remaining on the ice, the elbow tucked in, and as everyone else mentioned, Smith's head was down. Manson is also 3 inches taller than Smith, and with Smith with his knees bent makes his head vulnerable to a shoulder hit. The only argument that the Panthers broadcasters can make is that Manson took a bad angle of approach.

  2. Even though Reilly Smith got right back up to man the point, this should warrant a look from the league.

  3. It's only a headshot because he didn't keep his head up. When someone is in a position like that, how else are you going to hit him?

  4. I can't believe people are trying to defend this hit. It's not like the guy who got hit suddenly changed his body position. He had lots of time to line him up and that's the hit he chose to make. But fanboys will be fanboys I guess.

  5. Dirty/clean. It's hockey not every hit is gonna be perfectly within the lines. Like it, take no issue.

  6. How is that not a game misconduct!? He charged, he lunged, head was the principle point of contact and he even had the puck so there's no excuse the refs missed it…
At the very least it's a few games suspension depending on if Manson has any prior suspensions.

  7. The hit is bad, but what pisses me off is that this kinda hit doesn't have a fight break out, but the ones that are perfectly clean do?

  8. Borderline hit IMO. I definitely thought cheap headshot at first, but the last replay shows Manson's hit goes well into the shoulders and upper torso. It will be interesting to see how the lazy, post-Shanaban Department of Player Safety sees this one.

  9. 100% a suspension and they did not even care to give the guy a 2 minute penalty. that was straight to the head no matter if his head was down or not. that's nhl refs for ya

  10. Finally thats how hockey should be you dont need to doggy pile everytime someone gets tossed

  11. lol Zadorov gets like 2 for Charging and the 5 for fighting on a clean hit and he turtled. Then Manson doesn't get anything clearly aiming for the head. Good job NHL, keeping it classy as always.

  12. If you see the last replay and freeze it at point of impact Manson's feet are on the ice, arm tucked against his body and makes contact to upper chest. It looks bad, but 0 contact to the head. Watch it close and in slow motion. Its a clean hit at the upper chest
