  1. No rush to get a 2C, but what about trading for a 4th line winger? If we dont want to call up florian or davidson (which i agree with), whats the harm in trading a mid pick for a serviceable armia esque player that can kill penalties play with speed and hopefully contribute offensively a bit more than veleno? Come playoff time the added depth of having veleno and new guy available (assuming laine comes back and plays) cant hurt in my opinion. Just examples but guys like warren foegele miles wood paul cotter or a player of that type

  2. I just want to be entertained at this point… Last game was not entertaining because they executed very bad, and their energy didnt match LA. (And thats also normal during a 82 game season). Also, some teams are still better (or play better) than MTL, and thats absolutely acceptable considering the team’s average age.

The fact that they win or lose is less important to me at this point. Don’t get me wrong, I like it when they win too, but It must not be so dramatic if they lose. As long as it serves as a learning tool, and that they progress as individuals and as a team in the right way by experiencing bad games.

They should not be trying to win at all cost at this point by pushing for trades or patching holes if the price is too high, or they will end up screwing up the rebuild.

  3. They are better off trading Slaf for a 2C than moving him off the 1st line. He has to play with elite players to produce.

  4. Demidov should be left with Kapanen to see if they can develop into a top-6 pair. The guy I would replace Slaf with if needed is Bolduc.

  5. Slaf will end up a good player, but I just don't see him being a dominant power forward. He seems to lack IQ when he has the puck alot of the time, its as if he doesn't know what to do with the puck. Hopefully he does end up being a dominant power forward

  6. To become a CUP contender, the Habs will need to become a much "heavier" team. Their globetrotting style may get them into the playoffs, but then everything changes. The rules change in the playoffs and dipsy-doodling and speed won't get you far.

They need big bodies and durable players who can dish it and take it when it comes to surviving a Stanley Cup series. This team is NOT that, and they will not survive in the post-season until they evolve into a strong gritty team. 😮

  7. Let's face it there's still just a mediocre team although they've shown some razzle dazzle they are still just a middle of the pack team struggling to find a way to win.

  8. los angeles are pro defense with kopitar and danault, at center, and trap hard, so letting them score 3goals like that, was gg

  9. Man ,you guys are tough. This is a very young team.Give it time, they have a great start but fans need to be patient. They have a lot to learn.

  10. If you’re going to discuss Tage Thompson tomorrow, it would be great if you can also look at the rest of the Sabres and who might be available. Ryan McLeod would be my target. 26yrs old left handed center who is signed until 2029 at 4 x $5M. Excellent on the PK and can put up 50 pts. Perfect “stop gap” contract in my opinion.

Reachable with a Dach or Kapanen as a starting piece going back. Don’t think Habs have what the Sabres would be asking for for a Tage Thompson.

  11. The Slaf scapegoating is so ridiculous.
Caufield made a pass in the 2nd period which almost resulted in a breakaway going back the other way.
Slaf only made two bad passes in the 3rd when they were down 3-1. At least he was attempting to generate offense.
Slaf wasn't even on the ice for any of the goals, except the empty netter which doesn't count.
Hutson and Struble should be getting all the hate after that pathetic 4th goal which sealed the game.
How do two guys in their early 20s get beat by a 32 year old Armia?
Hutson looked so slow going back for the puck.

  12. I don’t know when MSL will wake up and put Demidov/ Dach/Bolduc together but this needs to be looked at! Newhook is playing well yes but in the future he’s. 3rd line player! Kappy will be a 3C so put them down there now and bring up Davidson. Sit Veleno and put Gally back with Andy and Evans.

  13. Montambault doesn't know how to position himself confidently one on one .. and his glove hand style is a joke!… palm up more is faster
..!! His glove hand position is stupid slow its not a baseball catchers mitt.
It's awkward slow what he does .. gets beat with it easily….!! And goes down too low too fast..

  14. 'Montem.blow' sucks like a Kirby vacuum cleaner. If I were Marty, I would create a play-by-merit solution… You keep playing until you lose a game, and then the other goalie does the same.

  15. 13:57 This an interesting point that Marco makes… Right now I think the young stars (Demidov and Hutson) can be helpful in generating a contrasting offensive tempo. 15:08 I remember when the young Carey Price had trouble with glove hand (the year they put in Halak in the playoffs). I seem to remember that one of the things Price did was some bounce the tennis ball off the wall and catch it in the glove hand drill., and he was able to fix the problem. But I think that Monty and Struble should have done a bit better on the gift goal (Struble behind the King, not between man and goalie) and then who was not telling Hutson that Armia was screaming in from behind (I see Struble and Monty nearby when it happened). Anyone who has played any team sport knows you hafta talk! Not saying you can blame these two alone for the loss, but there is room for improvement here….Agreed Mr. Starr, one bad game. They just hafta learn from it!!! But I still think we only develop Caufied-Suzuki-Demidov for special situations (like the Avs did with Hejduk-Sakic-Forsberg when they really needed a goal), and requires more development in practice (it really didn't look that good even though this out-of-hand game is a perfect chance to experiment). I still believe keep the first line intact and try to build a real super threat line around Demidov…Broken down toaster is awesome! HAHAHA! I'd be ok with trading either Kapanen or Dach with maybe an NHL-ready D prospect at Laval for a legit 2C if he is the right guy. (Dach could be a wing or 3C or Kapanen could be a third line shutdown guy, and we have good D right now)… I think the Avs one-two punch model (and two shutdown lines) could work… Lastly, I agree with Mr. Surf (be patient, this might not be the Cup year), and as a side note I think Valeno has played a couple decent games in his last two. He is in a shutdown role, and he has to focus on doing a good job there on his new team.

  16. Forgot not interested in playing Demidov with Dach. Dach still can't win face-offs and is RFA. Kapanen is a better player who is still on his entry level contract and so far robust. Dach should be on his way out or converted permanently into a winger.

  17. Love Hutson, but even with a shot he isn't Makar. Makar's defensive game is superior and he does not get pushed around. No way does Armia make that steal on Makar.

  18. YES! Exactly! The only thing that OK and Dach performing well buys the Habs is time. That's why getting as many points as they can early this season is so important – it gives them wiggle room.

  19. It's one game…. Stop…. Happens to every team. Last year the Habs blanked the Stanley Cup Champions throughout the year… Didn't matter did it.

  20. Montreal miss Armia and dvorak , they were a great fit and dominated defensively . Montreal don’t need a 2C as much as they need better 3rd and a big physical 4th line who can produce sometimes , this would take a ton lotta pressure and make room for the first two lines

Gallgher and Veleno never hit and never score , gallgher is slow as hell and he has zero acceleration, that’s why is constantly off side . Montreal need two 6’3 guys on that fourth line instead of Veleno who shouldn’t even be in the nhl and Gallagher who’s done , let’s move on

It’s always the same players that score and Montreal don’t get any offensive support from guys on the checking lines . Montreal are still way too small , too passive or two old on those bottom lines

  21. Kapanen and Dach get expose cause the 3rd and 4th line are useless , replace gallgher and Veleno by two decent player who can keep up and this would create opening for the other line . If the habs had Armia and dvorak in the lineup instead of gallagher and Veleno . I bet the habs would be first in the league

  22. your golaie not being able to stop a beach ball is a troubling sign, another 85% save percentage night, very primeau esque

  23. The old slaughtered. No surprise to me. I see this everywhere. Little perfect things matter over fancy and dynamic bursts.
