Why You Don’t Trade Away Elite Talent..

Trevor Zegras was supposed to be Anaheim’s next superstar… until everything fell apart. Injuries, drama, and a broken relationship with his coach nearly ended it all. But now, in Philadelphia, he’s back and better than ever. How did one of hockey’s brightest young talents lose everything… only to rise again?

  1. Should the Ducks have received more for him picks wise, sure but his departure meant Cutter could play a bigger role and be on a line with Leo and he now leads the league in goals. So far this is one of those rare win win deals for both teams. Thankfully Drysdale didn't become Shea Theodore 2.0 and he looks thoroughly mid

  2. the Ducks are nine and three in the season already top of the division the Philadelphia Flyers are in fourth place in their division 8 and 5 record so which one do you think had the better trade

  3. Sometimes you have to trade away elite talent. Trevor Zegras was a personality disorder disaster in Anaheim. The problem was never his talent it was his attitude. He thought he was one of the best forwards in the league. Spoiler alert he wasn't and he isn't. He put up two solid young william nylander seasons with 23 goals and 60+ points. He was a very young good offensive player with a ton of potential. Anaheim had a flock of young talented players they had to sign. Zegras apparently was insulted by the three year $5.75 million contract he signed and so he decided to protest being paid that money by not playing. He played 88 games the next two years as a no defence half a point a game forward until he finally managed to get himself traded to Philadelphia. He quit on his team.
He was a CAP anchor in Anaheim and mostly useless when he played for them, intentionally so. but the Ducks were unwilling to dump him for nothing. They already had the John Gibson contract which had been a millstone for five or six years. They had already had to trade the disgruntled Jamie Drysdale for Cutter Gauthier. They managed to dump Gibson for Mrazek and two draft picks so they didnt have to package assets to get rid of him. They traded Zegras for Ryan Poehling a young checking center and a couple draft picks again getting rid of a problem.
He's interested again cause he is an RFA at the end of the year. The CAP has gone up so there is more money to be had. Zegras will be trying to get paid too much again. Maybe he is worth it, I doubt it, but maybe, but only if he stays interested.
I think perhaps he has learned a lesson and knows his prosperity depends on performance but time will tell. If his nose gets out of joint again or Philly only offers him 7 or 8 million maybe he'll feel insulted again and stop playing. The guy he reminds me of right now is Pierre Luc Dubois. That isnt a player any team really wants to have to deal with .
More trouble than the talent is worth and not as good as he thinks he is.
Meanwhile Anaheim looks to have taken a huge step forward as the youth they have kept blossoms : Carlson 20, Gauthier 18, terry 17, McTavish 10, Sennecke 9.
The team is better off without the Gibson anchor or the Zegras drama. I'd have liked to keep Drysdale but Gauthier has been the perfect Zegras replacement.

  4. So happy to see him in Philly . It really looks like he belongs there . Hopefully he stays there for a very long time

  5. Zegras is better without the Ducks, Ducks are better without Zegras. 🤷‍♂️ Although I’d love to see him under Quenneville. Cronin ruined him.

  6. Ducks are probably making the playoffs this year if they can maintain their current pace until January. Trading zegras was good because ya zegras is probably a generational talent or at least a star player. But ducks needed depth scoring and a veteran presence that they got with kreider

  7. No brain, no headache. One sided video that would lead someone who doesn’t watch the sport to believe Anaheim was regretting the trade. Funny how you didn’t speak about what Anaheim’s been doing without him. Title should have been “why it’s ok to trade talent, that doesn’t work out”.

  8. These kids coming up today that are looked at as instant stars need a system that lets them be creative and play their own game. They went their entire minor and jr careers getting the ability to do whatever they want on the ice. As soon as you try and curb that they lose all confidence

  9. There are hundreds of elite talents that teams lost the opportunity to sell high on hoping one day they would pan out.
    Let's not make assumptions yet.

  10. Zegras will never make team USA. He will never drive play. He is professional dunker that doesnt play in the NBA.

  11. He was a bum in Anaheim with all kinds of issues. Change of scenery helped him and the ducks are doing just fine without him. I’m not a ducks fan. I do like the fact he is doing better. I wish success for everyone.

  12. When you have a high skill player who is having fun and putting up points let them play their game. He is not the first player to play for a coach who takes a star offensive talent and tries to make them a grinder. I think the flyers just said to have fun and play your game and immediately we are seeing the guy we saw his rookie season

  13. This is a Flyers fan of more than 50 years….that is absolutely THRILLED to have Ziggy in Philly! Love seeing him smiling and enjoying playing the game.
    We desperately needed a 1C. Now… before the trade…was anyone calling Zegras a 1C? Probably not…right.
But …he's playing and producing like one though….ain't he!
Hope he has a long career in Philly and… can't wait until we play the Ducks.
    Let's go Flyers!!!

  14. Not the 1st time Anaheim screwed up. They traded a young William Karlsson and sent Shea Theodore to Vegas. They won a Stanley Cup.

  15. Players need different surroundings sometimes. Aswell as the shit talking that comes with it, if you're competitive, you will work so much harder

  16. Anaheim is one of the best teams now I don't think they are missing him they just beat Vegas last night I would say the Ducks won that trade.

  17. As a Flyer fan….my biggest concern is this is Zegras's contract year. The Flyers get a player who has something to prove, but is Zegras going to re-sign then revert back to the player Anaheim traded?

Only played 14 games and there are many more games to go. I have had the privilege of watching the Flyers play for over 40 years…and have seen many players go on a tear and fizzle off. Could Zegras get 80+ points…sure, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him get under 50 points either by the end of the year.

  18. Not trying to hate on zegras but that pp statistic is a bit vague because of a coaching change. Tocchet is known for being able to make a good pp line

  19. Both teams won, are you watching ducks games this year? Keeping up with the standings? Ducks and Zegras weren’t a fit for each other, and now they’re both benefiting. Ducks still have star power. Zegras needed a team with a chippy culture for his flashy style of play, it balances itself out & it’ll reflect in his game.

  20. The ducks had to trade him. Not having a true winter was making him depressed. Which affected his play. It’s an actual mental health issue, I even have it. It’s a real thing. So he was gonna be traded to a colder area no matter what. Ducks didn’t rlly have a choice
