  1. Knobloch is losing it. It takes a whole team to win not just 1 or 2 players. I can hear the clock ticking on him.

  2. I expected a closed door players only meeting after the ugly loss. There is some new personnel but that happens every year. What is it about this edition of the Oilers that is failing us? Is there a new defensive system? At the start of the year I kept hearing this is the best top D we’ve had in a long time. Are other teams finding ways to expose our weaknesses? Maybe teams have a book on us and it’s to pressure Bouch, make Skinner move laterally etc.

  3. *UPDATE* Oilers Projected Lineup From Oilers Official Site

    Mangiapane – McDavid – Savoie
    Podkolzin – Draisaitl – Roslovic
    Howard – Henrique – Frederic
    Janmark – Philp – Lazar

    Ekholm – Bouchard
    Nurse – Regula
    Kulak – Walman

    Skinner
    Pickard

  4. The Knob quote was indeed way out of context, he was giving a hypothetical example of how you would rank the team in term of strengths; leading off by stating the obvious that Connor and Leon are so good they are the identity of the team followed by defensemen who are our next biggest strength.

The original question was from Bob Stauffer:

"There's a lot of money put into the defense on the backend.
Do you think you've got anything close to what you expected at the start of the season with your group on the backend? "

To which Knob replied: "No, I think we've got off to a slow start.
    Our defense group included…"

he then makes points about inconsistency in individual defensemen and also team collectively not giving it everything they got, and not that they don't care but that it is about confidence, and then he goes on to build on this point by saying:

"we feel our strength…. obviously Connor and Leon are the identity of our team…. when you think of the Edmonton Oiilers those are the 2 names that pop out – but right after that it should be our 6 defensemen that are playing each night because we feel that they can be among the best in the league every single night."

so it wasn't so much as Kris saying "Oilers are Connor, Leon and our defensemen and nobody else" – it was him countering and fully addressing Bob's question to highlight the importance and confidence ie- that Kris himself has in the 6 defensemen.

It was not a bad answer to be honest as he acknowledged defense have been playing inconsistent and struggling with confidence but that HE has confidence in them and as a team they feel defense is their biggest strength after the obvious offensive elites; he was just ranking hypothetically if you had to rank the strengths of the team he is saying Conner/Leon, then the 6 defensemen, and then you fill in the blanks: maybe for example the other 7 fwds and after Saturday night probably goalies last haha

  5. It has to be difficult for this team to hear Knaubloc saying that they are never good enough, even on games they won. I would think that affects morale quite a bit. Putting the entire team on the shoulder of just two players is bad form. Sorry I think it should be Knaubloc that gets questioned, from the top.

  6. Drai and Connor are two great players but the two cannot win a cup without an entire team and playing as one. 20 million on two defencemen that are far from their salaries in skill. May need both on the PP to have a backup for the turnover king . Goaltending. Is not at the elite level to bail out poor team defence and effort or to give them a boost. The grit and tenacity lost with the departure of Kane and Perry has not been picked up by any of the additions either. Still time to right the ship but needs to happen soon.
