Grading Demidov’s early start & debating his ceiling
TSN Hockey analysts Frankie Corrado and Cameron Gaunce join Domino’s That’s Hockey to grade the game of Ivan Demidov 12 games into his season and discuss what his ceiling could be for the Canadiens.
The two things that this kid has that some of these Russians they mention do not is his hustle to back check and such. As well, he has shown a lot of patience with the puck, which is a rarity with young guys. He and Hutson will make magic.
I disagree with top 10. He disappears when it’s 5 on 5 play, and so far no teams have an answer for the Habs powerplay unit. I say his plateau is a point per game player, and I see him as a consistent 60 to 70 point player. A lot of the Habs players this year, have disappeared when it comes to 5 on 5 play, and have shined when it’s 5 on 4 or 3 on 3. Also, how will Demidov have more command with the puck when it’s Hutson and Suzuki that usually have it? He’s going to be a great player, but once that powerplay cools down, so will the points.
With Demidov on the PP, not only does it make the PP way more dangerous, but it also affects the way other teams play against the Habs. They do not want to take a penalty so it will make teams less aggressive.
He's gonna be a superstar.. The best Hab since Lafleur.. I think he's struggling a little and look at his numbers.. Imagine when he get's his footing and matures a little. He's gonna be a monster.

No offense to his linemates Newhook and Kapanen but imagine when he's playing with true top 6 players. Montreal needs a real 2C ASAP.
Habs are 9-3, which is great… BUT remember that they have yet to play against any of the Top 6 teams!
