Looks like that puck was over the goal line by the time that Evans had got to it. I’m not complaining, but just saying. Anyway,, great game.
Kap is looking like the real deal!
THIS GAME WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED
The difference was that the Habs played D starting in the neutral zone when the game was winding down, as opposed to the blue line, which allowed them to keep playing in the Mammoths zone and not making Monty work
That goal had nothing to do with Monty that was poor back checking and BOTH Utah players were wide open corssing the line which I been saying a long time MTL gives up EASY zone access all the time. The second goal was a bad line change. Both of MTL's first 2 goals were terrible I been saying it forever every single goalie just goes down and gives up goals from bad angles.
What caught my eye was how slow Slafkovsky was skating when he got the pass from Matheson he got easil ychecked and lost it but just like th eHabs do a lot the Utahj player sent it around their net and coughed it up instead if rifling it right back out.
Newhook continues to be hot what a nice goal he has the tools to be this good but for some reason has alweays been a dummy with the puck.Caufield is well I been saying it the highest scoring IQ in the nHL but what I liked is that Matheson SHOT the puck holy smokes I must have been seeing things.Suzuki's goal was LOL Utah returns the favor with a horrible line change.
Man alive did utah make a lot of poor decisions the Dach goal was a D man making a stupid move as the last man back this is why as a D man you SHOOT the puck on net keep it simple.
Hell yeah boys!!! Showing them utah bambies whats up😤🔥😤
For tomorrows show, could you consider the question of Demidov’s all over game. By that I mean, other when he’s scoring points and dazzling us with his imagination, how’s he doing – without the puck, defensively, in the room, etc. I think he’s doing a fantastic job but I’m curious on your take…
I would appreciate your Insight on Laner play. I played hockey 18 years. I am watching NHL past 25 years And i dont remember except P.K.Subban defensman lije Hutson. He So unique. Its just Pure joyeto watch him play..Sometimes IT looks like that he is So ahead in his head And plays that there Is no one to keep up with him :)) Who woulde the perfect fit for him in your eyes .My Son Is playing baseball (Shanme) But If He would play hockey Laner Is a perfect model role for this little kids) BTW about the situTion in Czech goile. So far IT Is looks like that Lukáš Dostál Will be the starting goalie. For sure. But…there Are 1 spot lerft adn the main xontenders Are RITTICH, Vejmelka And.. DOBEŠ. If He doesnt her starts more games So He Will be third doutrh golie 🙁 Je need to plying to axbieve his dream about Olympics
I like your show, great analysis. I do however disagree with your opinion on shooting the puck from anywhere on the ice. We have had that mentality for 20 years. Marty has been clear that the single most important thing is to maintain possession. Shooting from low danger areas is terrible unless there are already teammates in front of the net. We used to outshoot all our opponents and lose. Now we are far more careful to not give up the puck when the odds are against a goal. I would love to hear a counterpoint to my observation. Keep up the good work coach 🍻
Agree….can't always pass and pass and pass waiting for the perfect shot . Habs been lucky of late facing weak goalies. I noticed quite a few games where miraculously they score like 3 goals on 8 shots as game went on.
If this team can play consistently like this I’ll be happy. They won’t always win but if they can give this effort on and off the puck I’ll be happy and we won’t blow leads like a hooker blowing lines.
Not gonna lie when Dach scored that goal I thought he was out for 6-8 months 💀🤣.. He’s on FIRE tho, If this is what a confident dach is I want him resigned.
2:48 “The Ottawa mammoth” hmm 🤔 🤣 it’s getting late coach, Imagine an inbred Hockey team called the Ottawa mammoth 💀 they would plague the NHL.
Arber had his best game of the season today defensively. MSL seems to have trusted him more tonight and he looked solid with his outlet play. MSL showing he doesn't want him to just be a bruiser and wants him to succeed at the position. He even had a few looks from the point which I think he could excel at someday because we all know he has power.
Coach, do you think the team lacks a little bit of Depth at LW? and who are you most excited about in the prospect pool?
GOHABS
kosta i watch a total of one shot for the other team then turned it off monte bot using his stick (shouldnt have been in net anyway) … glad these boys r so young that they dont care who is in net.. i was at team USA beating Canada very great to be at.. caught the 3rd period while driving home.. great nite for me .. go habs go!!! oh it looked like arber started the game , was that true??
Could Kirby Dach becoming once again the player that he was before he got into a string of bad luck? Isn't that good news?
Hello Mr. Coach Talk…MONTY IS BACK! His body language and eyes looked different…You read my mind on Arber Xhekaj with the hits and the shots! He made a difference in that game… Even Valeno looked better than he normally does on a couple of shifts. That line helped "control the neutral zone" by hemming them up in their own zone. They looked good…The did pretty good on special teams like you said they needed to, but the discipline breakdown after the non-call manufactured a power play of a sort…Funny, you also read my mind on the Utah Mammoth with the kids at the beginning too!… Like I said, this Utah team might be a paper tiger due to the weakness of the West (judging from a comparison of the W-L records). It is like the Capitals dominating the South east Division back in the day. And I think this is a game that I think (despite a few problems), all the lines/pairings and goalie did well overall for 60 minutes…
HERE IS MY QUESTION: What do we have to do to help Valeno make a bigger difference? What is missing in his game? How do we build his confidence? He is here, he doesn't seem to be going away, we need him to perform better (or no?).
The funny thing was this game was close except for approximately the last 10 minutes of the game where we all held our collective breathe every time Utah took a shot on net.
A buddy of mine came over to my place in his Halloween costume with a name plate hung around his neck saying MIKE MYERS / MONTEMBAULT with a fake big butcher axe…..which was scary ( lol)
If it wasn't for the fact that UTAH had pee wee level goaltending Montreal would have lost this game.
This was a false flag victory…..believe me or not.
Everybody seems to be thinking everything is alright in Habland but really……is it???
Would Montreal, playing as poorly as they did tonite, would they have won against a regular NHL team???
I really don't think so.
12 shots in two periods!!! 😲 😱 😲 😱 😲 😱
Marty hasn't done anything to fix Montreal's scant time in the offensive zone.
Coach, you rightly pointed out that Montreal has not faced great goaltending this year.
The city is been lulled into a false sense of security.
Marty's game plan….doesn't exist.
When this team starts playing really good NHL teams I think Montreal, as it is today, just might be run out of the rink in upcoming games.
I don't want to be a naysayer but the collective sense of relief most fans came away with tonight is a mirage. 😢😢😢
Marty is being terribly exposed for his incompetence.
He has has 2 years to identity and fix the late game 'losing the lead in regular time' time problem.
That is very worrisome.
Marty, with all due respect for the man, makes some 'bonehead decisions'.
I want everyone here to step back, clear their head for a moment and think carefully and answer this question.
Without the spectacular play of Dobes where would Montreal be?
If Monty had been in nets instead, would this team only just have won it's third game of the season instead of it's 10th???
Would the team be in last place in the NHL because of that.
Has Dobes great play patched over Montreal's real problems which seem to all point to Marty's coaching.
People might not like to see what I have written but be very honest.
Does Marty need help with his coaching or is he being exposed for his incompetence???
Look, I don't want to harp on the fact that I have been following Montreal since the early 1950's but what perplexes me now is why you would sit a white hot goaltender who is passionate about his performances (which have been stellar) and replace him with a goalie who has played a lousey game all year???
Dobes is responsible for 70% of all the wins Montreal has had with spectacular numbers BTW.
By best anology, is Marty as coach, was the small skinny spare tire some of us have in the trunk of our cars used to replace a blow-out or flat tire.
Can we all admit, that Montreal was in this state the season after the players willed themselves into the SCF to be just about the worse team in the entire league?
I am saying Marty was that spare tire, just good enough to get you to the destination where you can buy a real tire and throw the spare back in the trunk.
Marty was great for a team that was torn down and slowly rebuilt with some incredible talent.
Can we also admit that Marty has failed miserably in recognizing that Lane Hutson should have been placed on the first PP, the same with Demidov?
Why are we having a goaltender issue when one goaltender has proven he is the number one goalie this year by his numbers and play, while Monty has played himself into a backup role.
Yet, Marty announced that Monty is the number one goalie for the team. Did I just fall down the rabbit hole 🕳 in the story of Alice in Wonderland?
I'm sorry for pointing out reality, but that's the only world I live in and have all my life.
Marty seems to like the charity approach to coaching, putting players in the doghouse for no reason and playing favorites because he is incompetent.
I think that emotional outburst by Dobes the other day can be put on Marty……what more can a goaltender do to deserve proper recognition on a team???
I am only suggesting that the general manager begin his search for a real NHL coach this year, who understands tactics, who understands talent and people, to now lead what is a legitimate playoff team with abundant talent.
I'm not saying to immediately fire Marty, but the team desperately needs a real coach to take it to the next level.
Coach… you have broken down Montreal's issues so well and offered good solutions, but all I'm asking is why Marty hasn't. Could you explain that to me….to us???
Thank you coach for your channel.
That you note and comment about these games, good and not so good points, is appreciated.
That you included noting the opening bell ringing ceremony, the way you did it. The young soul wearing a Habs jersey, ringing that bell, and raising his hands with that smile, that was the first tear. Your comments about it, "isn't that what life's all about guys?" That brrought the second tear. Good sir, for showing your heart, which is very rare in any podcast nowadays, thank you very much.
10-3-2 Not 10-5. There is a difference. One is 22 pts. The other is 20 points. Good show!
Do you think Marty is stressing quality shots over quantity of shots?
first goal veleno was asleep. he should of had yamamoto. was right beside him watching
anderson whining cost us second goal
time for davidson to slide in for veleno. hes not fitting in. doesnt look good on any line
A question I have as a hockey watcher not a player or coach is, why does it seem like zone entry is so hard for the Habs? And why does it seem so easy for other teams? Is this a specific play style? It seemed like Utah was able to enter the habs zone at will.
You're right. For Sam, old habits die hard. However he is on the good road. Like Arber, josh has to control the emotions and frustration. Overall they have to finish and put the games away when they should. Work in progress. Goid team win.
Slaf has been looking fast this season. He knows what he has to do. I never see him confused. He needs to work on his shot because he has had so many chances due to his speed and strength coming down the wing, but he just can’t shoot. I’m really liking his play this season. He will be a beast in the playoffs.
The pregame was amazing. Dach shedding the check with his leg. The kid can play. Please stay healthy.
Matheson had a couple of shaky moments early on. He did redeem himself.
Thank you for recognizing that Caufield shot. Of course. He's a different animal. Those go in because it's Caufield. Is it really luck?
LA, Dallas and Vegas. They aren't push overs. Oh, Colorado. Destroyed the Oilers.
Since October 15, Kapanen has been the top Hab with 58.3% in faceoffs, while Dach has 51.1%. Suzuki 51.5%. Evans 56.8%
Of players with 10 NHL games, Kapanen is 13th in the NHL in Pts/60 min on Even str. Kapanen is just ahead of Bedard, Celebrini, Stutzle, Scheifele & Mackinnon. *Newhook 26th, Demidov 40th & Dach 49th.
Of NHL defensemen with 10 NHL games, Noah Dobson is 2nd in the NHL in Points/60 minutes on even strength. Cale Makar is 1st. Alexandre Carrier is 15th, Lane Hutson is 19th & Mike Matheson 25th.
Habs are 3rd in offence (goals for/game) at 3.80, while the Habs are 2nd best (2nd lowest) in Giveaways at 12.93/game.
We just went through our worst week of the season and got 4 of 6 points. On to the next thing.
Lukas Dostal will be Czechia's # 1 goalie. Dan Vladar is .917% in 9 games vs Dobes .920% in 7 games
Hey my friend love your mug but can you make your face a little smaller or take it completely off the screen while you're making your analysis of a play then pop back on when your done. Some of the play is kind of cut off with the extra screen showing! Thx my friend!! Love the show as always!!
Montreal letting team Czechia consider that maybe Dostal, Vejmelka, and Vladar is an incomplete list. This country certainly has no shortage of excellent net minders.
This next 12 game stretch could be the toughest opposition of the season. If we can get 15 points and have 37 points after 27 games played its possible we could have a 110 points plus after 82. Knock on wood we stay healthy we should definitely finish top 2 in the Atlantic. Go Habs! Career year for Newhook what a turnaround! If you could discuss his play in an upcoming episode @pucktalkmtl
monty finally hit 90% save percentage
Vejmelka and Dobes are not competing for the starter job. Heard about Dostal in Anaheim?
Game was close the first 2 periods. Very choppy play on both sides, I thought the Habs were going to play better than Utah and somehow lose the game…but bingo, they played a really good third period. Demidov needs more ice time in my humble opinion.
Caufield is tied with McKinnon in 1st place for goals =12.
Suzuki is in 3rd place for assists just 1 point behind 1st place with 16.
For dmen: Hutson is in 2nd place for points and assists with 13 points and 12 assists.
Matheson is tied in 7th place for goals with 3.
Dobes is in 5th place GAA and 6th place for SV%.
Demidov is leading all rookies with 13 points.
Kapanen is in 3rd place for rookie scoring with 10 points and leading for goals with 6.
Demidov is leading for assists with 9.
What a start to the season!
