In Formula 1, Williams are something of a relic from a bygone age. In an era when numerous teams were starting up on a shoestring budget, and working out of small garages with whatever meagre resources they had, Williams managed to break through and square up against established powerhouses such as Ferrari and McLaren. For most of the 1980s and 1990s, Williams were the team to beat. Frank Williams’ enduring passion and slick business skills turned them from rags to riches, and the minds of engineering giants such as Patrick Head and Adrian Newey meant they introduced some of the greatest innovations ever seen in Formula 1 car design. Since the turn of the century however, they’ve been in a gradual decline, hanging on as the last family-run team, competing against teams owned by corporate giants, and have now taken on a new identity, with the Williams family no longer at the helm. The cars they’ve built have been some of the best, and some of the worst ever seen in Formula 1, and today, as we have done with Ferrari and McLaren, we’re going to go through each of them, one by one.

  1. I was born mid 80s, grew up in 90s admiring Williams F1 Team, and to this day I'm fan of Williams no matter how bad they become. Damon Hill, Mansel, Jacques Villeneuve, Senna, Prost, Coulthard – they are all in my memories racing those FW Williams F1 cars.

  2. Thank you for this detail review/timeline – looking forwards to future team reviews – particularly to the "Toleman to Alpine" evolution

  3. Senna had lost to Mansell and Prost in that Williams, he finally thought he had a car at Williams only to have Shumacher faster in the Bennaton. I remember he was obsessed with Shumacher and thought they were cheating. I remember watching his last race thinking he committed su%c&de. Couldn't understand how the car just went full speed into the wall. Still can't. No brake, full accelerator.

  4. My all time favourite is te FW11, the winner of the first race I have seen as a 9 year old. One of the best looking racing car ever.

  5. Words cannot express how happy I was when Dorilton decided to keep the Williams team name. Like, how could you take Williams out of F1? Williams is one of the most successful independent, non-manufacturer teams in F1 history. It made me love them.

And then they go and hire Alex Albon and now they are my undisputed favorite team. Lol

  6. Came for Williams, stayed for the FW07D and FW08B.

Also, no mention of Williams and their sponsorship with Bin Laden in the early 80s?

  7. You and LawVS are the G.O.A.T.’s of F1 YouTube, I wish both of you the absolute best and hope your channels grow exponentially

  8. Now you should do Mercedes but the history of the team going all the way back to their Tyrrell days. You could also do this with the likes of Toleman->Alpine or Jordan-Aston Martin! Am loving this series!!!

  9. Mate, the amount of effort & research required for these videos must have been massive, thank you so much, hugely enjoyable!

  10. Love your videos, are you gonna do more seasons in reverse? Maybe 2012, 2025 and 2009 could be good ones
