Unexpected hero Emil Heineman emerges as Islanders’ goal-scoring sensation. Is this former trade “throw-in” the key to New York’s offensive surge?

Gil Martin analyzes Heineman’s impressive 5-goal, 6-point performance in just 8 games, highlighting his physical play and chemistry with Bo Horvat. The goaltending situation takes center stage as David Rittich’s strong play complicates Semyon Varlamov’s return from injury. Martin previews a crucial matchup against the Boston Bruins, emphasizing the need for defensive improvement and consistent 60-minute efforts from the Islanders.

  1. 51 had first round talent. just never got much of a chance with cats then habs and was overlooked as top sixer so maybe 51 has finally settled in and found his spot on isles.
33 was a bow tie 'find' and throw in in the 16 for 77 deal with sabres who helped form the second line scoring with 20, 26 adding speed to line and giving isles some offensive punch on a '91-'92 isle team that featured 5 30+ g scorers. '91-'92 and '92-93 last isle teams that could truly score and practically matched high scoring pens g for g in second round '93 upset.

  2. Good morning 🌅, Gil. How are you? So far, Emil Heineman is a 💎 in the rough, and the Canadiens are getting the short end of the stick with Noah Dobson. He's scored 6 goals, and is a +6. At the rate he's going, he's going to score 20-25 goals. The Islanders PP has been slightly better, BUT IT STILL NEEDS ALL THE HELP IT CAN GET. If Rittich continues to play well, they may send him to Bridgeport to finish rehab. We'll see what happens. Romanov is back in practice, but he won't be playing against the Bruins tonight, and neither is Shabanov. Ilya Sorokin will start in Boston tonight. The Islanders are in Boston against the Bruins. They're coming off back to back games, and they're off to not so good start. The Islanders have to be ready for the Bruins, and I hope they have Matthew Schafer's back this time. HAPPY 🎂, BENOIT HOGUE. He scored 30+ goals in 3 straight years with the Islanders. He scored a 🎩 trick, one of them is a shorty in a win over the 🐋. Hear from you later, Gil, before I go, I got another one to for you. Butch Goring was compared to Pumpkin head. There's more to come. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

  3. Heineman was a steal in the Dobson trade 4 sure! Heineman, Eklund, Aitchison for Dobson…. Home run for Darche. The Double H combo of Horvat and Heineman obviously have Chemistry! Certainly surprised but a pleasant surprise of Heineman on the top line. . With good health I feel Heineman can hit 30 goals plus. We are heading in the right direction after a horrible 3 game start. Excited to see how our season progresses. Go Islanders.

  4. Think about these 4 points: 1) Heineman is equivalent to Dobson on ice, and the Islanders received two first round picks (16th and 17th overall, respectively). These turned into 2) left wing Victor Eklund and defenseman Kashawn Aitcheson. As well as 3) clearing 7 million $ of space (difference between Donson and Heineman). Those $ turned into 4) signing two FA, Drouin, DeAngelo and re-signing Tsyplakov.
Darche looks like he got an exceptional return and put extra $ to good use!

  5. Varly is done. That type of injury at his age. Even if he plays again he’d never be the same again.

  6. Gil, off topic from today's show but picking up a previous question/concern. Its obvious Schaeffer has a target on his back, can the islanders really protect him as currently constituted? Is a Ross Johnston type reunion or similar type presence realistic? If this team is building for future and Schaeffer is the future 1 million bucks invested to keep your multi million dollar investment safe and Sound could make sense short term no?

  7. Good morning team! Gil, there were times I really liked Dobson, but at times I couldn't take the anxiety I had when he handled the puck. Emil is already showing his worth. I hope he continues to play well, and improves as well. I know it will take time, but all the moves Darche has made, and hopefully continues to make, has or will bring the team to where we all would like them to be. I've even noticed a jump in Lee's step that we haven't seen for a while. We saw glimpses of it last season. When our younger players are NHL ready, watch out! Thank you, for another great episode. I'm really looking forward to tonight's game with the Bruins, who are not looking too impressive yet. Tonight will be Schaefer's 9th game. Everyone, have a great day! Enjoy the game tonight. See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  8. Good morning Gil and all !! Yeah I love Heinemen ! I drive Grumpy CRAZY cause he claims Heinemen is a 4th liner only . I argue he is very young and cant be called a 4th liner . The more he puts him down the more goals he scores !!! Miss the show but construction is slowing down so hopefully i can come on live though ive watched a few without commenting cause I was half asleep due to work….lol keep up the great work !!

  9. Have to emphasis are trade return is not only Emil, Atchenson and Eklund, but also whatever we use the cash we did t use on Noah’s contract

  10. Hey Gil, you’re right we need more physicality. But we also need an enforcer, because opponents are gonna take liberties. Also, when you get an update on Eiserman let us know!

  11. Very good stuff GIL. I've stress the importance of a player like Heinemen on every line. Someone with size like a worker bee, digs the puck out and not be a perimeter player. That top line is working nice. I don't so much mind duclair with Barzal and Palmeiri because he can match the speed of Barzal. Quite honestly the stop gaps they brought in don't do alot for me. Fanbase yells and screams for offence but perimeter players don't do it for me. Goals are scored in the dirty areas. Balance and mix on all four lines is what I'd like to see. If guys like Lee or Tsyp are on a so called 4th line you basically have to 3rd lines. No real need for a energy line of 3 grinders. That's how a guy like Ritchie would work for now on a lower line. Goals would come from a bottom line. Benoit Hogue was a favorite of mine. And he was sneaky tough. I think the end is coming close for Varly. Buyout. My ideas for lines. Horvat, Heinemen, Drouin
    Barzy, Holmstrom, Palmeiri.
    Pageau, Shabanov, Tsyp
    Ritchie, Duclair, Lee
I still think Lee has pp value. This is my favorite Cizikas off. The sooner they get Richie in there the better. Any one of the vets can go if they find a suitor. Duclair palms Lee, cizikas pageau. Do it for some sort of enforcer. Even if he sits half the games in press box. Ok rant over. Love the show. LGI

  12. I said from day 1 that the Obson trade was a win because we didn’t get saddled with another bad contract. We would have if Lou was still around. Anything above that is gravy. Darche made a great trade that will reap benefits for years to come.

  13. I think they are just keeping Varly around and will eventually buy out the final year of his contract or trade it to someone who can afford the cap space for a pick. This is a Carey Price situation. He's 37. Lou gave him another stupid longterm deal. Should have been 2 years with a higher AAV.

  14. Who told ya about Heinemen? Who said it first that I had a really good feeling about this guy? When I speak, the people should listen..😉😉
