WILDEST OT finish you will see! ๐Ÿ‘€

Wild forward Marcus Johansson cashes in on an empty net (literally) and is awarded the goal after Justus Annunen is deemed to have dislodged the net and refs rule Johansson would’ve have scored.

  1. Seems like a goal to me. Tired of goalies dislodging the net and ruining scoring chances. You are at the highest professional tier of hockey, quit making amateur mistakes

  2. Rule 63.7 – NHL Rulebook 2025-2026

โ€œIn the event that the goal post is displaced, either deliberately or accidentally, by a defending player, prior to the puck crossing the goal line between the normal position of the goalposts, the Referee may award a goal.

In order to award a goal in this situation, the goal post must have been displaced by the actions of a defending player, the attacking player must have an imminent scoring opportunity prior to the goal post being displaced, and it must be determined that the puck would have entered the net between the normal position of the goal posts.โ€

So thereโ€™s two key points you should take away from this:
    1. The rule is based on โ€œimminent scoring opportunity,โ€ aka itโ€™s not based on the act of shooting, or if rebounds play a factor

    2. They do not distinguish between if the goal was deliberately or accidentally displaced. All it matters is that a defending player displaced it

  3. Wow! Give that ref a raise. Got it right after goalie clearly dislodged the left goal post intentionally.

  4. Why everyone are talking about if Annunen did it on purpose?

    1. He didn't
    2. It doesn't matter, it's a goal either way

  5. Funny thing is had the goalie not knocked the net off intentionally. That rebound off the netting would have been in the corner or behind the net. ๐Ÿ˜… So I think it influenced the play and should be dead play ๐Ÿ˜…

  6. it's hard to have a clear angle about the intention of the goalie, looks like a weird circumstances where nobodies understands what to do, but ref saw the play by his own eyes so I guess that's a goal…. but if the net won't move,I think it could be a save not a sure goal.

  7. It would have went behind the net on the first shot had the goalie not knocked it off the net. It's a delay of game penalty no?

  8. It's not going in on the first shot if the goalie never knocks it off the net. Do you not just call a delay of game?

  9. I take neither side in this argument, but as a goalie myself sometimes you people donโ€™t understand how easy it is for a peg to come off. It wasnโ€™t on purpose

  10. Clearly was not intentional not to mention it definitely wasnโ€™t going in. Ref needs to be investigated

  11. That plsyer mustve known the rule cause he put it over the line after the net went off and immediately looked for a call by the ref.

  12. I actually think the initial shot was given as a goal would actually have gone off the post

  13. That announcer has the awareness of a slice of pizzaโ€ฆthatโ€™s not at all what happened. It went wide Johannsen got it and put it into where the net would have been and since it was knocked off intentionally itโ€™s a good goal.

  14. As a goalie, i hate seeing goalies doing this. Seems like you see it more the past 2-3 seasons in the nhl than you ever used to see it

  15. Thereโ€™s certain announcers in the NHL I canโ€™t standโ€ฆ
This guy with the goal call is one of them.

  16. Why does everyone think the goalie intentionally pushed the post? The goalie's hand was pushed away from the post meaning he didn't intentionally shove it out of the way + that net came off way too easily.

  17. he was very clearly just trying to push off his post. But even if he did it on purpose the whistle is still to be blown
