  1. Rusty struggled defensively because he almost got killed like 5 times in that same game !
you watch how many times he got injured in that game ?! He kept goin’ – meanwhile we shoulda been like “hey Rusty – relax – take a few shifts off”
Toronto players came home with their children , wives & grandmothers , etc. safe & sound that night (from the wrath of Craig Berube during 2nd intermission)
no worries – just gotta see how they respond against the CAPS .
    I still believe .

  2. 3rd period was BAD – but shots were still 12-12
it’s not like they sank into a hole that Toronto did in the first 40
they OWNED the Leafs . I know Halloween has passed but I honestly think some of the Blue Jay players dressed up in hockey gear as substitutions for that team in the 3rd …

  3. The save the leafs goalie made early in the 3rd to keep it 3-0, i believe this save sparked the leafs to just make the pens look weak. Pens will rebound! Itll be okay!

  4. The only reason people were upset about the Kindel pick was because, at the time, every pro scout outside the Pens organization felt like they were reaching for a late 1st round/2nd round player. Guys who were rated much higher were still left on the board, Pens had back to back picks, and they passed on all of those higher ranked players – most of which are playing in Juniors this year

  5. Well he knew it all the time and said it before anyone else did! Another one of those statements that no one remembers being said back when it was supposedly said!

  6. Hey DK, you don’t have to look very far to see egregious takes on Kindel. Do yourself a favor and go look at the reaction on the video you posted from that day. I had the nerve to say “who knows what he’ll look like” and it seemed me and a couple others were the only ones. I know this sounds easy in hindsight, but his play style has always reminded me of Sid. I’ve been surprised most about how he can ride a check or play along the boards and keep going. Can’t wait to see how he handles the physicality of Washington.

  7. Are there advanced analytics that provide evidence that Hallander has been good? I haven't noticed him, good or bad, much out there, and I wonder if a different winger may be more advantageous for Sid's line.

  8. I'm so glad that you made a video like this, Dejan. I think the reason that there was so much dialogue, if you can call it that, around the Kindel pick is a two-pronged thing: there has been a massive uptick in YouTube hockey draft/scout channels just in the last year or so and then you combine that with the fact that Penguins fans were more engrossed in this draft/draft class than any draft in recent memory.

I think it was easy to fall into that algorithm this year especially. What's funny is that there's a pretty prominent YouTube "scouter" that had Bill Zonnon ranked in the 11 spot where Kindel went, but then had Kindel going as low as 25th. Definitely an interesting group of people.

  9. I am a fan through and through, but i do not watch the WHL or other minor leagues, I do not tune into the draft, I don't even watch the preseason games…..zero interest. With that said, I haven't missed a game this season and on most nights the shining bright spot is this Kindle kid. He doesn't stay to the outside and skate in the soft areas, he is going after it every night on every shift. Most nights he has more chances and good plays made then Rust & Hallander, so this is the kid I'd like to see given a chance on line one till he proves he can't, which I think he'll over succeed, much like how Guentzel did early on. 12 games in I'll haven't seen anything from Hallander that screams line one. I also think Rust is the most rewarded third liner in the game, he shouldn't be on the ice against other team's top guys, his play making, passing, skating, puck possesseion and overall hockey IQ isn't in line with a Scheffeley, Connors, Mathews, Nylander, etc etc. Try Kindle and Mantha with Sid, now you have speed, size, puck possession, and you have two guys hungry for Sid. I know Kindle is a rookie but forget about protecting him, throw him into the deep end and see if he sinks or swims…….I bet he'll surprise a lot of people, but that's just my take after his first 12 games.

  10. I like this. Following all scouting reports heading into the draft, no one had Kindel higher than in the late teens to early 20's range of the first round, and he was "3-4 years away" to being NHL ready "due to his size and skating". I will fully admit that I bought into this hook, line and sinker because I assumed that these "scouts" … most of which I presume grew up in Canada and began following the sport before they are out of diapers … would know a little bit about what they are talking about. But man, even my admittedly untrained and definitely not qualified eye could see that Kindel is better than all these scouting reports after watching him for just a few games.

Now … should Kindel be THIS good? No, probably not. 18 year olds just aren't supposed to be this smart, especially this well rounded and defensively. The kid's hockey IQ is off the charts.

  11. Thank you DK. It's still early so they got to figure out what's next to avoid this kind of collapse. A lot more work ahead. Great stuff DK

  12. Dk- im wondering about your feelings of why Koivunen hasn't had the chance to play with Malkin after it went fairly well last season. With Brazeau out I figured he would be nice fit to at least try for a game or 2. Love Kindel playing on 1st line interested to see how it plays out.

  13. The only thing i would say is "wrong" with Kindels game is that he hasnt fully matured yet. When this kid grows into his frame, builds muscle, and reaching his full height, he will be nothing short of incredible. He is so, so, so smart. This kid is the real deal and i cant wait to watch him grow and develop into the his full potential.
