  1. He's a serviceable depth centre – there must be loads of teams that would be interested. Injuries are hitting left, right, and centre.

  2. You guys have a bad read. It isn’t the 2.4M he is worried about. It is that he never plays another NHL game on the current path.

He needs to get back to that level and have a chance to produce to keep his career alive.

  3. David didn’t hit I don’t see Roy hitting Knies hitting Joshua hitting matthews hitting bobby hitting Lorentz hitting which is why hiss ass has been in the press box lately so what is the true knock on David other than the money and Craig thinking backward somebody tell me please we value 2 way play my ass

  4. Join the Leafs and watch your career fall in the toilet! Prove me wrong… I have at least 50 names to throw at you.

  5. I do not understand this narrative on Laughton. I think Kempf is a much better player overall than what I have seen from the egregious trade to get Laughton.

  6. Nobody wanted him on waivers, nobody is offering a fair trade deal. Kampf just isn't worth his price, especially as a 4th line depth centre playing 9 minutes a night who is decent on the pk. It sucks, but that's pro sports.

  7. who wouldnt run away from a "team" like the leafs? a lot of teams would value him for what he is. good luck dave.

  8. Considering all this drama, he can always terminate his contract with the Leafs and go play for an ice hockey team based in the Schengen Area as his Czech citizenship gives him freedom of movement across the Schengen Area and European Union.

  9. I mean why would anyone want to ride the bench for the biggest loser franchise in professional sports history?

  10. Thank you , good commentary, on Overdrive yesterday the boys said Kampf would be lucky to get $925,000 and even then all 3 including Frankie, said they cant see it, everyone is scratching their head as to why terminate

  11. Another important note is that Kämpf is 30 now, he doesn't want to spend the rest of his potential NHL career wasting away in the AHL or some European team. At say 1.5-2m, even some middle of the pack teams would love to have him on, and he gets to spend the next 2 years as a 3rd or 4th liner rather than buried in the minors.

  12. Kampf is better than anyone they picked up. Way better…. those pickups are brutal brutal brutal… Kampf sees that treliving is committing to those other guys so he will never see the nhl again. Kampf is now paid half of league average and rightfully so thinks he can prove he is worth that moving forward on a new team

  13. Or.. at 30 years old… he can spend his last years as a top 2 centre on a European league team much closer to home and family.

  14. A multimillionaire taking $5m to ride the bus and never play another NHL game or $1m to try and revitalize his career. This is not as crazy a decision as you are positing.

  15. Kampf is taking a bet that Bérubé is an idiot and a bad coach….. that’s a pretty safe bet

  16. He led his Country as Captain to a championship internationally so he definitely deserves to be in NHL. Does not impress Bérubé so walking away from money to get back in the league.Good at face offs and penalty killing.

  17. I don’t know it’s always about the money for some players. It sounds like he wants to just play in the NHL!

  18. Also, Kampf hasn't gotten to play in a professional game since May 14th, 2025. Yes he's getting paid, but he's not even getting the call-up when injuries are happening. As much as you want to sugarcoat it, this contract is a gilded prison and he's not even considered the 5th center or the first injury call up. Why would any 30 year old pro player who has proven he can play in the NHL want to be stuck in the AHL? It's 100% percent the contract he signed, but it's ludicrous to be upset that this player may want to leave. With how he's been a defensive center for the Leafs, I'm sure a lot of teams would add Kampf for depth.

  19. Kampf was a fringe player to begin with. He worked hard and made the nhl happen regularly for himself but waning play last year has relegated his need to a fringe or lower player on most rosters

  20. $1.33M signing bonus. He already got this year's. If he signs for $1.08M one way, it's essentially the same deal minus a signing bonus.

  21. No, he thinks he can force the Leafs to buy him out. Why should they? He got waived. Understand, no one wants him at that wage. He needs to rip up his contact. We don't need to do anything. He has one assist in the Ahl. They gave him time. He is washed up.

  22. Kampf will head back to Europe and play there. Many others have left money on the table in the NHL to play back in Europe / Asia

  23. Maybe he just loves playing NHL hockey. There's a good chance he's got 7+ years left in the tank – he's only 30. So he moves to a depth role 1.5m a year type guy and rides the rising cap, but he still gets to play. He stays where he's at, his career might be fully over.

  24. yea im surprised they don't just keep him on Leafs for a year or just have Rogers by him out with the money they earn from one ticket from the WS.

  25. Kampf has a signing bonus heavy contract that already paid him $1.325 million this season, so he’s only walking away from a pro-rated $1.075 million for the reason of this season and next seasons $2.4 million (approx $3.4 million total), not $5 million.

  26. Kampf didn't report to his assignment; he's in breach of contract. In being so… he should simply be dismissed and set free.

There isn't any need to over think the issue.
