When did Auston start looking like dogshit? Oh yeah it's Berube. I have been the leader of the anti-berube charge since last year… the team has looked like dogshit since he got here.
I'm starting to wonder how much of this with Matthews is a coaching thing. Take 34 off thr pk. And I know there have been injuries, but god the line configurations. Rotating guys on different lines every game, within games etc. I mean as of now looks like knies is back on 1, mcmann back on 2, Robertson out again. Again, i get the injuries, but how are these guys supposed to have any chemistry when the lines are changed every game and within games?
I've bin sayn trade mathews for 2 years. He's a chump not a champ.
The guys nothing without a superstar playmaker to set him up but everyone wanted to blame Marner…

He's missing Mitch Marner!! The 100 point set up man, he made 34 look great.
I think Mathews was a lousy choice as captain, and thats dragging him down, also, he needs a set up guy (like marner was) as he is a pure shooter, he sure isnt a "make my own goal" like a McDavid, and he aint ever going to be a player like that…..if the right offer came i would trade him in a heartbeat.
I agree with the different styles of play with Matthews under Berube. I still cannot understand why coaches, no matter who they are or what system they want to set in place, can't allow their star players to BE who they actually are and let their line do what they can excel at regardless of system. Makes no sense to me. they're wasting the high level skill set of Matthews IMHO.
Mathews was the wrong keep. Marner was much more of a leader than Mathews will ever be. I remember all of the wins with Matthews gone and Marner leading.
Media guy never think Mitch did it all mabye the pressure is hurting the team legit never replaced him just put on the same core that still there

Matthews wants OUT of Toronto. That is very clear. He misses Mitch. Leafs better trade him or they will lose him for nothing, just like Mitch.
HIs wing man is gone people. Nine years of chemistry with Marner being the set up man. PLus coach is demanding a very physical sytle of hockey, he cant do what he does. He is still a great overall player

Surprise report ! Mathews is injured and an operation could do nothing. Mathews is a veteran who needs to raise his plsyoff game but at $14 million can he? The odds are Mathews has peaked. Given no injured time he might give you 80pts but only with a true replacement. 80 pts for $14m and one round? Ouch.

Leafs need gritty top 6 playmaker like Bryan Rust or Alex Wennberg or Steve Stamkos or Jordan Kyrou or Clayton Keller or Mathew Barzal or Alex Tuch or Tyler Toffoli type of player that can play two-way hockey and get goals and be playmaker

If I was Matthews with that big contract to live up to I would trust my hockey sense and my abilities and play to my skill set . My natural talent. The coach would not tell me how to play. You think Berube tapes his stick up for him and tells him how to shoot or not shoot wide? Come on man. Excuses now coach and Marner? Lol What was the excuse when Marner was in line up?? Everyone get off his back get him a proper winger not putting lines in a blender from week to week once that is done then criticize if he's not scoring.
Johnson is right they have to get him the puck more.
The problem is he himself has to play little bit more physical creating his scoring chances off the forcheck. He should go watch himself and see some of the angles he's taking to the puck and puck carrier and then when he doesn't have the puck he's not getting into good positions for transitioning up the ice to get odd man rushes.
You need to find a pass first winger with SPEED and a little BITE to his game then judge him. That 63 in Florida would of been nice to bad.
We're still taking about a pure goal scorer. Do you really think he's going to play better with a hole city jumping down his back.
It does not matter who you are. With money comes accountability. If Leafs coaching have placed different responsibilities upon Matthews, they should inform the fan base. This would be fair to Auston and Leaf supporters. If injured, he should not be playing. This applied to last year’s playoffs as well.
Berube is partly to blame also, he either should have put Maccelli or Domi on that 1st line and STUCK with it for more then one game and try gain chemistry.
Why did they add so many bottom 6 players and no top 6 player?

Clearly he still has nothing on his shot and that was his best skill. He seems to be lost out there. No speed so no breakaways anymore. He was looking exactly the same way with Marner. No winger can fix his problem.
Snipers belong on the wing. Why would a NHL coach – play any sniper like OV, Hull, Matthews, Selanne or Guy L. at centre – when they thrive on the wing?
When you put Domi on the first line, you know you got no talent on that team.
When Matthews played on Team USA what did he do? Nothing. He is so over rated.
Just miss the playoffs so they can fire Treliving and Berube. Otherwise they will keep running it back
Here's a stat for you- Ryan Reaves has 2 goals in 10 games and Mathews has 5 goals in 11 games of which 2 were empty netters. Soooo, ya…….Matthews has 1 more goal than Reaves and is on the ice twice as much.
He doesn't look healthy. At his best Matthews was a horse, unstoppable and couldn't be denied. This year he's a ghost.

Even last year with an unhappy Marner caused Mathews to score the least amount of goals in his career including a year he only played 52 games but managed 11 more goals then last year. The future isn't bright if you are thinking rationally. Hard days ahead ……….
It’s 11 maybe 12 games in. Relax all you arm chair experts! Hockey is team game the rest of the players around him also need to step up.
Matthews hasn’t been happy since signing his contract, he already wanted out but made sure he got a massive contract first. He will be moved this summer and Leafs will start the rebuild or retool whatever they want to call it. This passed rebuild is embarrassing to not even win 2 rounds. Marner was the best player they have had in years and on top he is homegrown. Marner chose to leave after they tried to trade him twice before that he was totally on board, Leafs choose to pay the wrong guy. Matthews was a great goal scorer but we all know why now.
