Remember when the Leafs have gone periods without Matthews due to injury?
…they got better, or at least no worse and played more cohesively.
Marner goes and they all look a bit lost. Mitch has been a total scapegoat.
There has to be something we aren’t seeing/knowing
All those people referencing Marner, Auston was better before Mitch arrived
Nothing really. He's fine. He's still an elite player, and he will pick up his production as he usually does. Stop the panic, fellas.
I think he’s a got a substance abuse problem.
Clearly the guy hid the severity of his injury long enough to get paid and now the charade of feeling "good" is falling apart
When Marner left, the reporters said "well you and marner liked to stay out all night before games – who are you going to bring out with you going forwards?" Nuff said. Matthews is chronically hung over and tired.
And that is the beauty of Ovi to get 30-50+ goals nearly every single year since he debuted. Matthews fell off the mountain immediately after scoring 69!
Matthews peaked his first game in the NHL so hard he never got even close to the hype it created and he looks like he doesn't care anymore
this is not a serious conversation. 100 points of offence got ran off his wing. its almost like Mathews was pumped up by someone…hmmm, its a mystery i guess.
Why can’t Nylander Mathews knies not work?
But does he shoot more or less than before? From what I've noticed he's still shooting at a good rate but it just doesn't go past the goalie (whether it's speed, acuracy, strength, execution ???)
I can only hope that you and your fans are now developing a mental picture of who the problem child actually was in the Leafs organization. And don't say Marner…
Leafs fans are in shambles and I love it. Go Habs Go!
On the plus side, he's only going to be a Leaf for 3 more seasons before he leaves to free agency and the Leafs have $13 million to spend on players who don't disappear in the absolute worst times.
It's probably off ice issues.. Mental health? Maybe just tired of being a leaf? Misses home? Who knows!
He lost his butt buddy
with Marner he was getting 5-6 perfect set ups per game, now he might get 1 every couple of games…his production is a numbers game, and he doesn't have the numbers on his side anymore.
The injury, he even he is 100%, could have affected his play. From soneone who has experienced injuries in my useless career, I can tell you they affect your game play and maybe he needs to change the way he shoots, or his timing due to that injury. I am not sure what else to say at this point. Another option is to move him from the starting centre to the second line centre and get a way better matchup and get something going.
as someone who has a few friends who suffer from Crohn's Disease…i wouldn't be surprised if this is whats going on. and its heartbreaking to think about.
Well marner is gone lol, trade the only player that can lead you to a cup derp toronto is so funny they even think they are Canadas team lol hahaha EVERYONE say its montreal its Canadas team and the hockey capital of the world with russia, not toronto lol haha
