Sam Carrick had a huge hit on Lane Hutson and Arber Xhekaj stepped in to fight for his D man. That’s great and all, but was this really a moment for this?
I get what you're saying but my take is if Xhekaj wants to stand up for their young stars more power to him. If I were a Canadians fan I'd love seeing that. Also, Carrick didn't have to fight him, he could have skated away.
Canadiens fan here, i hate when the plays stops after a clean hit, it negates the whole point of hitting in the first place, kills the flow, the refs are always fumbling the calls on each side and it trivialize the fighting side of the game.
Fighting used to be a you don’t do cheap shots xyz to our guys kind of thing, but is now a don’t you dare do what is perfectly within the rules, because it hurts my feelings kind if thing.
Hell, if refs were actually calling the book instead of game managing or if the department of player safety did its job, maybe that wouldn’t be a problem.
They really gotta be careful about having too many fights for no reasons, it’s already a miracle that it is legally/socially tolerated, one death or vegetable state guy in front of millions of eyes away from it being banned entirely.
Arber is a head-case. He was looking all game-long to throw hands. (Rempe ignored him.) Arber timed it, so, he wouldn’t get the call for Instigator, by waiting for the play (or Carrick) to come around his way.

I'm not a fan of the fight after a clean check. Take a number. Old schoolers are cooler.

Hands high and a bit of a slew foot. Reasonable fight to start
