Are the Detroit Red Wings actually “NHL divisional playoff seed” good, or is this just an early season mirage?
Tune in as we start by discussing the wild shootout win for the Red Wings over Todd McLellan and Cam Talbot’s former team, the Los Angeles Kings: Marco Kasper’s 2 goals (including an almost high-stick off of Sandin-Pellikka’s shot), Alex DeBrincat scoring again, the late collapse and called off overtime winner due to Fiala’s interference, Cam Talbot’s massive stops, and Lucas Raymond’s shootout winner. Also, Patrick Kane’s injury, Austin Watson being called up over Nate Danielson, what this means for the Grand Rapids Griffins, and when Steve Yzerman and Todd McLellan may choose to bring Danielson into the fold.
Next, Detroit’s loss to McTavish and the Anaheim Ducks as John Gibson revisits his former team: more DeBrincat goal-scoring, Raymond, DeBrincat, and Dylan Larkin syncing up, Moritz Seider’s phantom “kicking motion”, controversial reviews, & more.
After that, we discuss whether the Detroit Red Wings are truly a good team worthy of an NHL playoff seed, what’s different this year as Emmitt Finnie and Patrick Kane continue to solve big problems in their top 6, how they might continue through tougher months, and how insanely close the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference are.
Finally, NHL news & notes (including the Necas contract & Makar’s next deal) before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment – enjoy!

Let's be real, you deserve to lose if you allow a short-handed goal
They're all over the place but as long as they don't burn themselves out with random 5-7 game win streaks I think they are. It's about consistently getting wins. If we can do that we'll be solid.
If Larkin stays healthy and the goaltending stays decent as it is now they are making playoffs
Seider made about the worse play I have seen for him on that short handed goal. Poking the puck up the board on a short pass in traffic, then isolated from the break away.
Hope they settle down and just use common sense tactics not trying to push the limit.
Montreal already has five OT wins.
I think we'll know what this team really is about a month and a half from now. Avoiding our usual December slump will be huge
They're certainly a lot more fun this year!
Curious about the plan with Hamonic. He has been better the last couple of games. Watched only the first period of the Anaheim game so maybe he was a dumpster fire. Will they try to generate interest or use veteranness? I like JBD and having depth is always good, I guess. Just wondering how that will play out.
That Seider goal should’ve counted.
26th in goaltending. Can't outscore that every night.
wow since when do these get posted before 1am??
Just wait… the Redwings will blow it again. Lose tonight in San Jose and Vegas. .500 team boys. Get used to it!
What do you guys think about Yzerman targeting Boston Bruins Mason Lohrei?
I was double angry after that goal was called back on Seider and then the Ducks score off of a great pick by Compher on ASP. I sometimes wonder why our vets don't know where to go or where to be.
Wes thinks the game is about him and should be removed from the officiating crew
I’ve only really been a hockey fan for roughly 5 years.. You guys mentioned how every team in the east is basically at or above “500.” I’ve always wondered why they don’t use a 3-2-1 scoring system. 3 reg win. 2 OT win. 1 OT loss. Especially with how different OT is than normal hockey, what is the reason for the scoring system? Does anybody know? I must be missing something..
