  1. I am a die hard Lightning fan, and while I realize hockey is a rough, dangerous sport it always gets to me when I see the stretcher come out. It even makes me tear up.

  2. They are both looking towards the puck. This is on Toronto for bringing their players back way too soon after a injury. Interference call I could see but that should have been it.

  3. Dude braced himself, put his left shoulder into the upper back of Tanev. No way he didn't see him. He knew what he was doing.

  4. Slew foot would have been a concern if Tanev was facing forward but he wasn’t. Tanev simply wasn’t prepared for the hit but Mitchkov wasn’t really going after him. It’s just an unfortunate play.

  5. Tanev, it seems to me, came back to early from a previous concussion. The hit was not that hard. It is easier to be concussed the more you have.

  6. I mean, that's kind of Tanevs fault for skating backwards with no awareness who/what was behind him. I think to call anything but interference is a stretch, and even interference is a stretch. Those type of collisions happen multiple times a game with no calls. But rarely is this the outcome.

  7. I don't think anybody commenting here that the hit was an accident or unintentional has 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 played a hockey game, let alone watched one. He hit him from behind intending to charley-horse Tanev by driving his knee into his calf muscle and smashing his upper body at the same time, also an illegal check since the puck is nowhere near him. Michkov knew exactly what he was doing but keep telling yourselves that it was an accident if that's what makes you feel safe.

  8. Tanev eyed Michkov at the blue line and decided to run a little interference. Michkov wasn’t about to be intimidated and chose the correct approach. Stayed his line and absorbed the hit. Reckless on Tanev’s part

  9. Tanev came of a concussion injury early, and this hit absolutely could have re-aggravated that concussion, which is a very serious injury if true.

Tanev was backing up along the blue line as he was hit and didn't see it coming which often makes these injuries worse.

  10. I think back to all those vicious hits he took against Florida last playoffs. Hockey takes a toll on your body and the damage stays with you. It kinda heals but it's like scar tissue. The injuries happen faster, the cuts open up easier. Hope he recovers but I think he's gonna need probably most of the season to get back to health.

  11. Not the first with this comment but fuck off with the slew foot talks buddy. Dude was hiding with the ref, cut inside to try and avoid Tanev and stay onside. Tanev changed his angle as the puck came up the ice, changed of direction towards the boards instead of tracking backwards gave Mitchkov nowhere to go.
    Interference, incidental contact. 2 min.

  12. That announcer saying it's a slew foot has never played a game off hockey in his life. They're both watching the play and it was accidental. Mitchkov even went to step around him at the last second, he was just a bit too late picking up tanev. Hope he's okay.

  13. These announcers are playing dumb. There was no slewfoot whatsoever and it was incidental contact. That was just a freak accident

  14. Michkov was attempting to stay onside while his teammates advanced with the puck which is why he shifts to run parallel to the blue line to avoid being offside. Tanev to no fault of his own wasn’t aware of where Michkov was moving to and they collided awkwardly. Don’t know how the announcers are seeing intent to injure, it’s just unfortunate and Michkov probably feels terrible that that’s how it played out.

  15. Remember to keep your heads up kids. In the 90s we were told to always expect contact even if we didn't have the puck. Your are moving so fast that even an innocent collision can be catastrophic. In no reality should you ever skate backwards across the trolly tracks without being aware of your surroundings. Not saying I dont feel bad for tanev but he put himself in a position that if a collision happened he would have no way to defend him self to lessen the contact. Tanev was playing checkers on a chess board set up.

  16. Basic American commentary – always seeing and expecting worst of everyone. Slew foot can only be found in the commentators' asses.
