Marchment goaltender interference on Stolarz – Tough Call Review

Mason Marchment was given a minor penalty for goaltender interference after crashing into Anthony Stolarz. Not only should he not have gotten a penalty, but his team should have been given a powerplay for the reaction of Stolarz, and I don’t mean pushing the net off.

  1. Do we take into account his history of embellishment (which has been fined prior in 2022)?

Would he have been able to mitigate perpetual motion towards Stolarz regardless of Nylander?

Considering this is the 2nd time in 2 games it has happened to Stolarz – wouldn't be fair to say he is fed up with league regulations regarding goaltender safety (ie. Play with possession while mask is off?).

Just a few considerations.. unbiased, coming from a habs fan.

  2. Stolarz has a valid ass reaction, hes been treated like shit by his team and players since the bennett incident last year. dude took a huge discount and nobody is standing up for him so he had to do shit for himself

  3. And how do you protect the goaltender who he's on his knees to make the save? If the skater didn't want to hit the goaler, he had enough time and space to stop or avoid the contact.

  4. No one defends him, he gets hurt constantly by opposing teams. I would have raged, too. Not sure about the helmet, but yeah I would have raged.

I think Stolarz's intention was to grapple him with the glove and blocker on, and he ended up getting the helmet off as Marchment backed off.

Anyway, a rule is a rule; I don't think Stolarz cares at this point as he was seeing red at that moment.

  5. I don't think it looks like there is any intention to stop anyways, the back foot is already trailing and is not exactly in a position conducive to stopping even before the contact

  6. Apparently a lot of Leafs fans in the comments. 🍿 It's not Seattle's fault that Toronto isn't protecting Stolarz. I don't care if Stolarz gets fined or not, but Marchment doesn't deserve hate for THIS play. Hell Toronto cross checked Seattle into their own net earlier in the game. This is a Maple Leafs problem and not a Kraken one.

  7. Look again genius. Look at the speed and trajectory of Marchment. He was going to the net and into Stolarz inintentionallyRemember folks this guy is an Edmonton fan who always finds a reason for the bullshit calls and non calls against the Leafs. What a stupid opinion. Notice you are the only one on the internet with that opininion? Your opinions get worse every year dude.

  8. Did you see the point at which Marchment made an attempt to avoid contact with the goaltender? He was going in to the goalie whether he was clipped by Willy or not. Nice try at analysis though.

  9. He makes no motion I can discern of "ripping" the helmet off. It appears his blocker glove is pressed on top of it and when the player pulls back the helmet is pulled off because the glove is hooked on it a bit. Would your system require some kind of clear pulling motion? Because I just don't think the footage shows that.

  10. Disagree. The foot clip occurs way too late. He was going to smash the goalie anyway. You’re probably just another guy who dislikes the Leafs. Correct?
