The Montreal Canadiens are off to an incredible 8–3 start, surprising a lot of fans and analysts. It’s not just one player carrying the load — the entire team is contributing.
Nick Suzuki is tied for first in the league in assists and sits top-10 in overall points. Cole Caufield is tied for first in goals. Lane Hutson continues his breakout with top-three production among NHL defensemen, and rookie Ivan Demidov leads all rookies in both points and assists.
Alex Newhook’s strong play has given Montreal a dangerous second-line option, while Juraj Slafkovsky’s physicality, board battles, and forechecking are standing out even when he’s not hitting the scoresheet.
On the back end, Mike Matheson has been rock-solid defensively and logging big minutes. In net, Jakub Dobes has overtaken Sam Montembeault as the go-to starter, giving the Habs a spark between the pipes.
Overall, this team looks fast, confident, and more cohesive than we’ve seen in years — proving that the rebuild is truly starting to bear fruit.

slaf also has had many close calls. suzuki hitting the post on a perfect pass, slaf getting stopped by daccord on the caufield pass, his entries are really fast and controlled, he rarely loses puck battles too. i do think he needs to start producing more but its not really on him at this point, most of the time he's getting robbed by goalies consistently but he's still doing a very good job at power fowarding

Dude you are honest!
I don't think Xhekaj's been benched for his mistakes as often as we think, but rather form a strategic standpoint. We've been down a goal late in the third a lot, and in situations like those you need offensive defensemen, and Montreal's top guys are better suited for that. If we start gaining leads I think Xhekaj will see more playtime in those final minutes.

I swear I heard MccGuire said the EXACT same thing about slag getting the “tertiary” assist. His play is breaking through the wall and the rest of the line lays it on thick but he doesn’t end up getting the flowers he deserves. I know for a fact rob talks hockey said verbatim what you said though
Think of it: our 1st line is noticeable. We could have 3 rookies in the Calder discussion with Demidov, Kapanen and Dobes. The rookies are already in the fire. Our new Dad line of Gally, Evans and Andy is dependable defensively with some offense. I still have faith in Monty, I think he'll be fine.

The Habs bench Dobes for winning??? Monty is terrible. We need to win the divisional games!! Snacks wont help.the only number that matter are wins. Monty has 212 games played and 82 wins. Not even backup numbers. Monty is done!! We need a better backup.
