CUTTER’S SNIPING & CARLSSON’S DOMINANCE | Anaheim Ducks Updates

The Ducks are off to a solid start to the season, and in this episode, I break down the standout performance from their gutsy shootout win over the Florida Panthers. Cutter Gauthier loves nothing more than sniping pucks and scoring goals, while Leo Carlsson is elevating his play as the clear first-line center. We also break down the progressions of McTavish and Sennecke at forward, while highlighting the young guns on the blueline, as LaCombe, Mintyukov, Zellweger, and Moore are making their marks in different roles.

  1. Carlsson can be an elite playmaker scoring 100 points a year, Gauthier can be an excellent scorer scoring 50 goals a season and sennecke is one if the best rookies this season with an excellent future ahead. He has unlimited potential like Michael Misa with San Jose.

  2. Season Predictions:
Cutter scores 40 goals this season.
    Leo tallies 79 points.
    McTavish gets 65 points.
Ian Moore becomes our best defensive defenseman. (he might be already)
Dostal finishes top 3 in Vezina voting.

  3. One young player on the roster who I’m concerned about is Mintyukov. He has been inconsistent with his skating output, puck retrievals & zone exits, turnovers, and decision making lapses. I think Cronin stalled his development a bit. Hopefully he gets back on track with the new coaching staff this season.

  4. Beckett has consistently shown flashes offensive creativity, speed, tenacity at the net front, and puck skill. That being said, he struggles mightily along the boards (gets knocked over with ease) and is very turnover prone. While he’s gotten heavier, he still has a lot of strength to build. He seems aggressive at times and tentative at others. He has this annoying habit, when nearing a puck (being passed) or a puck carrier, to stop skating and reach for it/them. Also when entering the offensive zone he feathers his passes too softly and often the opposition will pick it off. I’m not concerned with him long term, but right now I think he’s more of a liability in the top six than an asset. Hopefully he learns quickly.

  5. Leo still has a lot of room for growth both offensively and defensively. I think he has the potential to be the best player in franchise history.
