Just like it wasn't smart for Markstrom to get his 1st start in awhile the other night,in Denver against 1 of the most dynamic offenses in the NHL-I think it'd be unwise to start Blackwood tomorrow in Vegas. Let's make his 1st game in months Saturday in SJ. NJ should've started Allen vs us,& Markstrom tonight in SJ. Not that it guarantees anything either way-SJ has a lot of young offensive talent that in theory-plays better at home-like most young teams. It's certainly possible he could have a great game in Vegas or Celebrini,Smith & company light him up in SJ.
But the young Sharks aren't remotely Vegas-offensively or overall,& let's give Blackwood the best chance possible to get off to a quick start & knock off the rust. Going against maybe the deepest offense in the NHL,& a team who's awesome at home(& always seems to score a bunch against us in Vegas)-doesnt seem as wise to me. Of course he's gonna have to go against top teams soon but maybe let's ease him back in,& not give him the ultimate offensive challenge in his 1st game since game 7 in Dallas.
Great to hear about Necas and his contract. I know the Bruins wanted him.
Rantanen was a big loss, but Necas fits the team (and particularly MacKinnon's line) really well. I would argue he is a better fit for the Avalanche's emphasis on speed and skating than Rantanen ever could have been. Plus, at 26, the Avalanche will be locked in with Necas for all of his prime years. By contrast, Rantanen will be 36 by the time his deal with Dallas ends. I would say the Stars got the better of the deal in the short run, but the Avalanche have set themselves up for success in the long term.
Necas is better than 'Rants', so it is a big win retaining him!!
Hate the fact they hired Hakstoll, a coach w prior experience as the "heir" in case we don't come out of the first round. Keep Bedsy here for another decade

With all due respect to Necas, he's not Rantanen's level. Avs shoulda just gave Rantanen 12m per if you're going to give Necas 11.5 per. Rantanen is a 50 goal scorer with MacKinnon and a 100+ point player and clutch playoff performer. Necas isn't even a 30 goal scorer (yet) or a 90 point player. Don't get me wrong. I'm totally rooting for Necas to put up 40+ goals a year and 100+ points but just saying he has never hit those marks yet and Rantanen has already done it several times.
