Reacting to Martin Necas’ extension with the Avalanche

Martin Necas and the Colorado Avalanche have agreed to an eight-year contract extension worth $11.5 million annually, bringing a (soft) end to the Mikko Rantanen saga in Colorado. Is Necas worth that pricetag? Did the Avs have any other options?

  1. Thank god you guys don’t talk about the avs a lot because this is absolutely horrible commentary and analysis.

  2. Mikko would have stayed for 12. He wanted 14.. he couldn’t get 14 anywhere.. signed for 12 in Dallas. In hindsight mikko would be here for 12. We got necas for 2 seasons at 6.5 too… and Drury. A super solid 3c. Cap is going up: it makes sense. I think 10-11 is where it would have been if he signed last season. But times change month to month right now. Marty is a play maker too. Absolute sniper as well. Time will tell if hes worth it.

  3. Tell me you don’t watch the Avs without telling me you don’t watch the Avs 😂

Tell me you don’t understand the cap without telling me you dont understand the cap.

Y’all need to do research. This is an awful take and video. You clearly never watch Necas.

It’s well reported Rantanen wanted 14M from CO.

By trading Rantanen the Avs have a younger and better fitting player at 6.5 M player this season, a 3C in Drury, room for a 2C in Nelson, room for Landy to return, and room for Burns for this season. None of that happens with Rants at 12M in 24-25.

For having a podcast y’all should really expand your thought process vs quick hits.

Also watch a game with Necas in it.

  4. So when it looked like he wasn’t gonna sign with Colorado, and he was gonna be traded, everybody wanted him, but now that Colorado locked him up four years younger , the cap is going up, and Kaprizov just signed for 17 btw, he’s not worth it… I smell a little saltines

  5. 😂😂😂😂 avs fans in the comments are so salty. Can talk shit nonstop but once you mention something about their team they don’t wanna hear “this podcast sucks, what idiots”

  6. Avs were offering $12.25m, Mikko was asking $14m as “hometown discount” (in NC & TX original ask was +/- $15m). Mikko was this year (meaning no 2C, no depth 95.5m cap). Marty next year WITH 2C & depth, 104+m cap).

  7. You guys joke about that "saved 500k" bit, but there are people who do seriously think thats "all" they got out of it. As slow as Brock Nelson has taken to acclimate, hes still undeniably a better option at 2C than Ross Colton. And then you add in an improved Jack Drury at 3C. Both those players would likely not be wearing the Avalanche sweater had Rantanen signed.

The Avs with Mikko Rantanen were locked in as a 1 line team. The Avs after Mikko Rantanen were a team with potential to quickly develop championship-level depth.
That Colorado team with Mikko loses to Dallas without Mikko in 5.
