We’re revisiting that Sportsnet article discussing teams that may be interested in Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman Seth Jones, and this time we’re discussing the Chicago Blackhawks.

Oddly enough, one of the proposals brought up in this piece, 2018 NHL Draft defenceman Adam Boqvist, is apparently a name that many Hawks fans would be interested in departing with.

  1. Mitchell, yes. Beaudin or Boqvist, no. I love me some Seth Jones but, I like the young guys that Bowman has drafted in the last couple years and actually want to see them grow ON OUR TEAM, not being traded. Mitchell is only a yes because I do not believe he has the large upside that Jones and Boqvist have

  2. Not gonna lie, Boqvist is kinda like Quinn Hughes, and yeah, I'd trade any of them for Jones in a heartbeat if I can sign him. Do you know how many 6 foot and under defensemen are left in the playoff? 3. How many of them are under 6? 1. How many team has won the cup with multiple defensement under 6 foot? ZERO! I am not saying it won't ever happen, but it doesn't seams like the winning formula even though the NHL is suposedly encouraging smaller player to thrive in this league, and for now, it's only true for the regular season.

Look at how much the excellent defencemen on Colorado squad were struggling against Vegas… Makar and Girard both had a hard time, even if one of them was nominated for the Noris trophy. Chicago knows how to deal with these kind of players having Campbell and Gustafson on their roster. Even Campbell had a hard time the in playoff of 2010, managing only 5 points(1 goal) when he had 27 in 65 in the regular seaon.

This is nothing against Boqvist, he might be a very good defensemen(I even drafted the guy in one of my simulation league), but he'll need to be a hell of a player to surpass what a guy like Jones can provide, especially in the playoff. Until one day, the NHL changes enough maybe…

  3. If the Hawks traded something like Strome, Mitchell, and both of our 2nds in this years draft. Then I’m 100% on board to get a guy like that would be awesome. But I was coming here to say literally what you just said and that being Boqvist was already producing at Jones level this year and he is 6 years younger. So you go with the younger cheaper opinion. If they do trade Boqvist for Jones I think that would be a huge mistake since we aren’t 1 player away from being a true playoff contender.

  4. Idk who your talking to but Chicago loves boqvist and no way we give up on him he hasn’t even played a full season yet

  5. Just watching the Mic'd Up practice skate series and when him, DeBrincat and Dach is a sole reason I never want the trade to happen let alone the fact that Boqvist could potentially be better than Jones by the time he gets to that age. Hawks fans on Twitter sound worse than Toronto fans anywhere lol coming from a fan of both teams.

  6. Agreed. I thought Boqvist looked really good in the second part of the season. Doesn’t make much sense to me either relative to where the Hawks are in their build.

  7. highly unlikely the hawks would include boqvist in a trade. however, if jones is willing to sign an extension, i could see the hawks including a.regula with the #11 pick in a potential jones deal. something along the lines of… #11, a.regula, c.dehaan, a 4th rounder this year, and a 3rd rounder next year in exchange for s.jones and a late round pick

  8. Trading Boqvist would be a mistake. The even bigger mistake would be giving Jones more than 7mil. Chicago just got out of cap hell, Jones will drag them right back into cap hell.
Next summer we have to resign Dach, Kubalik, Boqvist, Murphy and Lankinen… dont let Seth Jones eat too much cap space

  9. Well as a Hawks fan, and a hockey fan in general over the past 40+ years – when looking at a trade like this there are a lot of factors to consider… Right off the bat I wouldn't be too thrilled if Bowman moved Boqvist at all unless he was included in a package for a guy like Eichel or blockbuster along those lines. However Boqvist is still 2-3 seasons away from "toying" with the league if he continues to develop – and I say "toying" because he's that skilled on his feet with the puck, Boqvist just lacks the experience and size to be an impact player right now but I project he will be, now with that said what is he going to make when he reaches his potential? not only that but is Seth Jones what the Hawks need now and will need 2-3 years from now? if so what type of contract extension is his agent suggesting? because Boqvist is still very young, so he's essentially like "putty" hence can be molded – Seth Jones is already molded – you know what you're getting with Jones, there is no more development with him – his ceiling has already been reached, and another factor is that Boqvist is cost controlled, and like I pointed out it's going to take this kid a little time before he breaks out, however he's still a legit NHL defenseman even in his development process.

With that said and all of those factors considered – Adam Boqvist has the edge in all of these factors/categories other than being the better player now – Jones is the better player now, but at the same time subjectively Boqvist has the higher ceiling. Also, lets not forget we're talking about two different types of players with completely different styles and both fit the game the Hawks play – but that doesn't mean much, just something to consider…

Look, I thought about a potential Boqvist for Jones trade before this proposal was even reported, and if I were Bowman I wouldn't trade Boqvist straight up for Seth Jones, because the improvement Jones would bring to the Hawks on the blue line isn't significant enough to justify it – not only that but Boqvist was obviously a player the Hawks really wanted despite Boqvist needing long-term development… It just doesn't make any sense because the sky is the limit for Boqvist, he just needs time and he could be one of the better defensemen of his generation, but that's not only it – Boqvist's skill-set is generational, I mean he's a defenseman that dangles other defensemen for Pete's Sake, lol… He's like a defensive version of Patrick Kane….

So yeah, nope I wouldn't do it…… Beaudin er Mitchell on the other hand, absolutely I would consider it…..

Perhaps: Beaudin, Entwhistle, RFA rights to Zadorov and a 2nd round pick for Jones??

  10. I wouldn't put much if any faith in what "hockey fans" want – let alone Hawks fans considering a lot of them don't know what the hell they're talking about… At times it's like asking a 10-year-old's opinion on traffic laws, lol.. Yea, sure they've driven in the car with mommy enough to be aware there are traffic laws but they don't know why. lol… Not the best analogy but I think I made my point… Look, a lot of newer and casual hockey fans cant see the "bigger picture" in trades like this one being proposed… So of course a lot of casual Hawks fans er new hockey fans will say "hell yea, I'll take the better player now" – they don't consider what the team will look like 2-3 years down the road or that there is a good chance that Boqvist will be the better player – nor will they consider salary cap ramifications now or in the future – nor do they understand that developing a young player into the player you want them to be is very beneficial to the team… And those are just a few aspects one needs to consider when analyzing a trade er potential trade – there are plenty more factors almost no hockey fans consider… Chemistry is another one but that's why you develop players in your system…

  11. I’m a Blackhawks fan and I don’t want to trade Boqvist, not at all. Dach and Boqvist should be untouchable.

  12. who is a better fit both salary and skill-wise for the hawks… seth jones or dougie hamilton? the hawks need a new young seabrook clone.

  13. I think the hawks would trade beaudin then boqvist.boqvist is likely to be the next number 1 defence on the hawks

  14. As a Hawks fan, I’m so confused. Bowman says we are rebuilding and going with our younger players for the future. Sacrifice the present for the future. Now suddenly he wants to trade the younger guys for established players? Which is it Stan? Not sure what to think but I’m not ready to give up on Boqvist yet. He’s worked really hard but he needs to bulk up a bit.

  15. Bowman literally gave up 2 first round picks and a 2nd round pick for a 6th and Seth Jones tell me how that is a rebuild.

  16. The thing is the blackhawks want to win now With Kane and Toews
still around Lots of points for Jones In Chicago
When you think about defense men Don't always think about points But with Patrick Kane And Alex The hawks are moving into a Stanley cup window Sooner than they thought *

  17. Well Hawks fans.. how do you like how the trade panned out? I feel better about trading Jones after seeing how you guys view Boquist, time will tell though. Always the chance guys don't reach potential but since we're rebuilding in Columbus, I don't mind taking a risk if the potential you guys say there is, is in fact, there

  18. Blackhawks fans are super happy with this trade, don’t get it twisted. I just don’t like the contract size/length which could look terrible if Jones doesn’t bounce back. But no, boqvist was not my favorite at all

  19. NO, not all Blackhawk fans 'want this!' Nor do we appreciate such a ridiculous 'assumption.' Do fans select who comes to Chicago? NO! You should have asked, 'Blackhawks management wants this!?'

  20. Lers Look back at this trade david jiricek, cole sillinger, Adam bouquist and Jake bean for seth jones what a hall of talent the jackets recieved
